Horse meat is used to make dogfood.

It's better than spotted owl, IMO.

^THAT got a laugh out of me....

Anyway, horse meat tastes like deer, in that it's dry, tough, and gamey. Cooked right (read, STEW) it's OK. The only reason why folks every really ate the stuff was for lack of any other meat to eat. Generally, cows are better, and they cost less to raise, so I doubt horse meat is gonna catch on in the states, since even the cheapest chuck steak is on par with horse, and will cost a LOT less.

You want a GOOD meat, got for buffalo. Bisen is like the tuxedo of meats. Make yourself a good buffalo burger...yeah, it may just be the most expensive burger you every made...but oh man, it's good!

Not that I really noticed. If I had not known, I would have thought I was having beef roast. It probably has something to do with preparation. I have had venison that I thought was downright unpleasant tasting, and some that tasted just like beef.

Yep, with the less desirable meats, and cuts of meat, it's all about the prep. Deer can be dry, tough, and gamey...but put it in a stew, and it'll be the best damn stew you ever had. Brisket is an awful cut of meat, but I'm QUITE fond of corned beef and cabbage. Or slow cooked brisket...but if someone doesn't do it right? That stuff is tough, and tasteless.

While the better meats, and better cuts, require less work. Take the ribeye, for example. Best steak in the world, in my opinion. Just grill it, with some salt, pepper, onion and garlic. Done. Or rib meat off a pig. That stuff's delicious no matter HOW you cook it...

Food is food. Let them eat horse...some of us already eat cat and dog.

You don't have to put venison in a stew to make it taste great..........you just have to cook it properly. I've cooked a whole hindquarter that tasted exactly like prime rib when I was finished.

As someone who is very fond of horses, has spent time with them, and who has owned two; I will not do business with any restaurant chain that uses horsemeat or any grocery that sells it. Period. It's a disgusting concept to even consider so far as I'm concerned.

Why not? It's not like it's cat or dog flavoured, they can be an acquired taste.

Ever been around horses, Manc? I don't know how anyone who has ever spent any time around these magnificent creatures could ever even consider eating one. Not a chance in hell that I could ever do it. Hell, most of the horses I've known rank highly among my favorite people I've ever met.
