(Reuters) - Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords served a Thanksgiving meal on Thursday to Air Force personnel in her first constituent event since she was shot in the head in January, her office said.
Giffords dished out turkey with tongs as she stood between Brigadier General Jon Norman and her husband Mark Kelly, said Giffords' spokesman Mark Kimble.
The event at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base was expected to draw more than 400 people, mostly U.S. Air Force personnel, retired service members and their families.

This woman is one class act! If she were my representative, I would definitely vote for her regardless of party affiliation.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, may you all have a great day, and plenty of Turkey and fixin's .....:2wave:

You're right; no matter how classy she is, her politics suck donkey balls.

Agree. I hope the tradition always remains to give our servicemen and servicewomen the best possible Thanksgiving dinner no matter where they are serving today.

Is that what I said? Maybe statements like the above are why people think you can't read.

And I agree her politics suck donkey balls.

Stand up thing to do by a stand up woman.

From friends who live in Tucson and a friend in Phoenix who have known and worked with her for a long time, it's Gabby. She's said to have always been that way. Someone serving who gets it. Her politics pretty much represents her district too. Good on her.

FYI, politicians don't really stand for anything. Their purpose is to fulfill the legislative objectives of their sponsors, period.

If giffords were truly anti-war (which she isn't), pro-education (a laugh), or pro-environment (not even close), then its life might have some value.

The shooting of giffords was no big deal. Killing a pol is like breaking a light bulb--they can easily be replaced. The only reason the shooting was a tragedy was because humans (including a 9 y/o girl) were also killed.

Nevertheless, it needn't be said that the giffords' behavior after the shooting suggests that it has courage, something complete uncharacteristic for politicians. So it appears there is hope for it.

Bold & Underlined: Where I stopped reading because the nonsense was too much.

Excuse moi, but a 9 y/o girl being killed is not nonsense. It is a big deal. A light bulb or pol can be replaced but not a child. The scumbag who killed her was troubled but he got what he deserved, IMHO.

No. The nonsense lays in the fact that you claim that if a 9 y/o girl hadn't died this wouldn't have been a tragedy and that killing political officials is like breaking a ****ing light bulb. Get some perspective please and thank you.

You don't know jmac in real life. Neither do I, so I will take him at his word when he says that he would vote for her, regardless of political affiliation.

I take him on what he's demonstrated on this forum. With that said, would you believe me if I said I'd vote for Ron Paul? Get real Dana.

I wouldn't vote for her just regardless of her politics. That seems like a very odd thing to do. However, she's obviously a wonderful person who has shown her strength in many ways. Good for her.

Good for her, and fantastic she is fighting to recover.

I do have strong ideological beliefs, and in most cases her record of down the line stances on liberal issues would be enough to dismiss her in my eyes, however, this woman, regardless of her beliefs is a fighter, and I believe that the courage to come back and display her love of country is enough to say that she may be one of the good libs left. I don't have to agree with her.

glad to read this. her recovery has been amazing.

You're apparently ignorant of the facts. It wasn't just a 9 y/o girl that was killed. A seemingly decent judge and also lost his life in the mayhem.

And not all life is equal. It's always tragic whenever innocent people are killed, and I've acknowledged that. But to equate light bulbs and pols w/humans is delusional. The latter are tools that can be replaced. But lives cannot.

Yes, there's no question that it's showing courage. In spite of its injuries, it's resolved to go on living, which is highly uncharacteristic of a politician.

The serving of Thanksgiving meals to troops is a standard political move, but there's other evidence that giffords is not just a run-of-the mill tool. The key evidence is that, immediately prior to the shooting, it chose to communicate directly w/the people in its district in an open outdoor setting, exposing itself to danger. Even with security guards present, this is highly atypical. No other federal politician has ever held anything like a "Congress on your Corner" event outside a grocery store.

Still, although I'm aware that the popular perception is that pols should simply be considered humans like people, I would have to see much more evidence before placing giffords or any other pol in that category.

So, just out of curiosity, what did politicians do that made them, in your eyes, be less than human?

Or, maybe you just can't understand sarcasm? How old are you?

You're right; no matter how classy she is, her politics suck donkey balls.

How anyone can attempt to use the word CLASSY in the same sentence as the words that end your sentence is one of the truly enigmatic puzzles in the known universe.

So, just out of curiosity, what did politicians do that made them, in your eyes, be less than human?

Politicians are tools, much like blender, vacuum cleaners, light bulbs, etc. that are bought and owned for the purpose doing a specific task for the owner.

Just as light bulbs create light for the user, and blenders mix the ingredients the user puts in it, pols write and approve the laws the user wants.

People, OTOH, exhibit independent thought, consciousness, etc. They also possess attributes like empathy, character, etc. not found in household items or other tools.

Lastly, pols, light bulbs, etc. can be replaced. Lives, OTOH, cannot.
