Demonstrators Plan to Occupy Retailers on Black Friday

Some demonstrators are planning to occupy retailers on Black Friday to protest "the business that are in the pockets of Wall Street."

Organizers are encouraging consumers to either occupy or boycott retailers that are publicly traded, according to the Stop Black Friday website.


The goal of the movement is to impact the profits of major corporations this holiday season.

Good point. If they try to keep all those credit-card-armed Soccer Mom's out of Best Buy and Target on Friday, they're going to WISH they'd just gotten pepper-sprayed by the Po-po. :lamo

You keep assuming that they have a plan. Or an agenda. They don't have an ideology. They don't have goals. All they have is a raging sense of entitlement and a dim, fleeting awareness that the rest of the world doesn't consider them nearly as important as they consider themselves. So all they're really doing is making as much noise as possible, being as obnoxious as possible, to force all of the people with real jobs and real lives to pay attention to them, because they're important, goddammit, and they're fighting for an important cause. Even if, for the life of them, they can't tell you what that cause is.

I love it when people get what they deserve. And this sounds like the perfect recipe for a bunch of spoiled, nasty people to get exactly that.

I love it when people get what they deserve. And this sounds like the perfect recipe for a bunch of spoiled, nasty people to get exactly that.

You and I disagree completely about OWS and nearly everything else under the political umbrella. But on this I must say I tend to agree (aside from the silly envy nonsense) . I do not think this is a wise tactic and it will only serve to alienate many good and decent people who simply want to shop and thereby help the economy.

I think they - the OWS movement - need leadership, need to decide on one central message, and badly need to keep the public on their side. I think the goal to expose the greed in this nation and the corrupting influence of money on both our financial economic system and our political system is a noble undertaking. I am afraid that its being lost - or at least diluted - due to tactical and strategic errors.
 
showing up there and messing with shoppers would be a mistake for OWS.
