However, if you are saying that you'd rather have had the potential of injury, to either the protester, or law enforcement officers by physically trying to drag them apart and arrest them, I can't understand why you would want such a confrontation, other than to make hay out of any action by the police.

Do you believe mild chemical weapons should be used every time someone does something the government doesn't want them to do - even if said violation is of a minor offense (disorderly conduct)?
I have caught pepper spray second-hand once when a store I worked at was being robbed (unarmed). It's pretty ****ing awful and took about three hours before I could see and breathe properly again and I was about six feet away from the robber.
By the way, he was unarmed, but he was trying to knock down the security officer who ended up spraying him - in other words there was an ACTUAL threat of and attempt to use violence against a police officer. He wasn't sitting on the ground with his arms locked.
