U.S. banks should "undermine" Occupy protesters: memo - Yahoo! News

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Occupy Wall Street movement is a big enough problem for U.S. banks that they should pay for opposition research into the political motives of protesters, said a firm that lobbies for the industry.
Clark Lytle Geduldig & Cranford, a Washington-based firm, proposed the idea in a memo to the American Banking Association, an industry group which said on Saturday that it did not act on the idea.

The four-page memo outlined how the firm could analyze the source of protesters' money, as well as their rhetoric and the backgrounds of protest leaders.
"If we can show they have the same cynical motivation as a political opponent, it will undermine their credibility in a profound way," said the memo, according to a copy of it on the website of TV news channel MSNBC, which first reported on it.

The memo is from Clark Lytle Geduldig's four name partners. Two of them, Sam Geduldig and Jay Cranford, are former aides to House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner, a Republican.
Using shorthand for Occupy Wall Street, the memo said:
"It may be easy to dismiss OWS as a ragtag group of protesters but they have demonstrated that they should be treated more like an organized competitor who is very nimble and capable of working the media, coordinating third party support and engaging office holders to do their bidding. To counter that, we have to do the same."

So much for the notion that banks + any bought out politicians aren't concerned with OWS. Clark Lytle's explination straight up creating an excuse to attack for his friends. In essence hes saying, "We have been and need to manipulate the image because its what people are doing to us."

Ill repeat it. In his words,
"It may be easy to dismiss OWS as a ragtag group of protesters but they have demonstrated that they should be treated more like an organized competitor who is very nimble and capable of working the media, coordinating third party support and engaging office holders to do their bidding. To counter that, we have to do the same."

once again, treating the symptom won't cure the disease. if the economic situation continues along its current trajectory, OWS could look like Fisher Price My First Societal Unrest.

people will put up with a lot of inequality as long as the American dream looks at least a little feasible and they can see some small hope of climbing the ladder. if the majority start seeing the game as rigged, though, their will to keep playing it will be reduced significantly.

What's your point? Let's analyze this. A company sends a letter to the American Banking Industry trying to gin up business. The American Banking Industry "did not act on the idea."

You're saying these words came from the American Banking Industry??

No wonder we're so scrood.

The text of the memo is here:

I recorded the segment, and they were VERY clear that it was an "advertisement" for services.

They ALSO made it clear that it was just ONE such ad from just ONE firm that does this kind of Public Relations work that they just happened to get their hands on.

I'm SURE that many other PR and lobbying firms are hard at work developing "crisis" responses to the Occupy Movement.

A "crisis management strategy" is what that memo outlines.

Opposition research is a PR term.

Their acquaintances are sending them advice. Period. What? If they did take this advice into consideration you expect them to admit it?

To say , "Oh ya. We really like this idea and started implementing it right away."

Just because they never responded to this specific leader doesnt moot the fact they are receiving info on how to thwart a political movement aimed against them.

Its creepy that certain factions are conspiring in this fashion period.

Considering all the crap the occutards are doing I do not think banks need to actually do anything to undermine the occutards. It would be like conservatives plotting to make Michael more stay fat,not really needed since Moore is already doing a good job keeping himself fat.
