Personally, I think the difference is entirely cultural.

The real question being, do third or fourth generation children who are fully americanized maintain this higher standard of living over other ethnicities?

While somewhat true, also remember that many times, for every attempt to remove a social ill, one is likely to strengthen a new social ill.

—until it hit $75,000. After that, their daily emotional well-being flat-lined. “Your emotional well-being is as good as it's going to get at $75,000,” Deaton tells Gallup's Management Journal. “It’s like you hit some sort of ceiling.”
Try telling that to a tycoon as he snorts cocaine off of a 3rd world childs head and plans his next dollar investment on a celebrities death.

The thing I garner the most from this report is that we don't need to live in a society where you require so much money to live well, yet we have chosen to make it a two-tier system. Everyone could be cared for and live well if we had different spending priorities from top to bottom. It's sad really.

Our society has become so greed driven.
Everyone is greedy to a certain extent, just another form of ambition in most cases.

I'm surprised the study doesn't consider the relative costs of living at different locations. Someone in Muskogee OK would be much happier with 75k than someone in NYC. Their happiness meter should measure the income to CoL ratio, rather than a flat dollar amount.

I dont know about tycoons but snorting cocaine off a third world childs head would not be that enjoyable to me. Off a hot swedish or Korean womans body yes, but a third world childs head, not so much

Trouble is...people haven't learned to live at their means or below. So they're always needing "more."
75k in Chicago...that should cover your taxes. Just kidding. 75k is tough to get by here in Connecticut, unless you live away from the cities.
