Re: crackdown on "OWS" capms coordinated by US mayors

The OWS movement seems to have the idea that if the police and city leaders do not let them do any thing they want then they are suppressing their movement. What is clearly being stated is that these people do have the right to protest and voice their opinions but there are rules to govern that so things do not get out of hand. What I don't understand is why the people involved cannot follow these rules? Why do they feel they are above the law? Do things the right way.

If all these people wanted to do was protest then they would protest,go home after hours and come back the next day. If they wanted to they could actually let others use the park for a bit before coming back or not take up the whole park or even stick to the sidewalks.

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

The OWS is not going to end. When you quash freedom of speech and assembly, people will feel wronged and come back in force.

I feel that the social unrest is only going to get worst in the next couple of years, until our government does something about top level corruption and economic waste. The unemployment rate is only going up while the fat cats line their pockets with tax payer money.

Their speech and freedom of assembly has not be quashed. They are just bot being allowed to camp out.

again public opinion and protest is denied. the fascist hits again.

do the population at large still have a right to protest and be heard in the US?
Freedom of Speech & Association does not include the right to camp indefinitely in plublic space, thereby restricting and preventing the use of such public space by the general public.

    sorry.

nevermind the fact that there is NO evidence that the crackdowns have been "coordinated" by various Mayors.

not only are they NOT being told they can't protest & assemble, but they aren't even being told that they must have a protest permit to do so.

the NYPD has issued zero summonses for protesting without a permit, which shows a clear respect for Freedom of Speech..even to the point of violating NYC's own laws.

So let me get this straight if they didnt pitch up tents and just stayed there and protested for like 18 hours a day would that still be allowed?
Or lets say the protesters made shifts where they would protest at the park 24 hours a day and take shifts.. Would that be allowed?

Re: crackdown on "OWS" capms coordinated by US mayors

So, you bring in videos of the old situations where police were using force in a comment about the recent shut downs of Occupy campsites?

Do we call this a lie by omission?

I was asking for evidence of police beatdowns in reference to THIS THREAD...

You made your comment about mayors sending the police in to beat the **** out of protesters in THIS THREAD..

Which is about MAYORS shutting down campsites.....

Not about police handling particular marches during the course of the last month....

    Yes.
    And Yes.

As long as their assembly didn't turn into a breeding ground for criminal activity.
