Mental note: never travel through Connecticut. I'd get life in prison for what I normally carry in the truck in SC.

In CT, if you have a bat, but no ball and glove to accompany it, it's a ticket, for a weapon. If the tire iron is not in your trunk, but, say, under the back seat or something, ticket. I had a coworker get pulled over, and fined for having a box cutter in his car. The blade retracts; concealed weapon. He had that thrown out, on account of me, telling the officer over the phone that he needs that for his job....which he did. It blew my mind.

I tend to agree. But it'll never happen. The people that make these laws do so with the full backing and applause of their constituents. These idiots don't realize till much, much later that hey, maybe this SOUNDED good on TV, but in practice, this law SUCKS.

Personally, I'm all for a few public executions of people that commit scandals and such, raking in millions and billions while in office in the form of kick backs, and future high paid positions within the companies they assist with their regulations and laws passed. Kill them, in the street, drag them behind a horse, I don't care, and do it on video, post it, let it go viral, for all to see.

That is absolutely ridiculous. I travel with my tire tools out because it's too much of a hassle to put the kit back, I usually have my .40cal with me and under Louisiana law the vehicle is an extension of your home, perfectly legal, and I have been known to have a bat on me from going to a pick up "home run derby" in the past. I don't know why these politicians think in the U.S. that it is okay to restrict the items people can have in transit. I'd heard from a couple of people that in Washington state you can have a gun in the car but the ammunition can't be accessible. If someone ambushes you what the hell good is it?
Neither side in an argument can find the truth when both make an absolute claim on it.

Yes, same in CT. You CAN get a concealed carry license here, but while in the car, the amo has to be kept separate from the gun.

This doesn't change the fact that it can be good for a person to carry a gun for protection, as long as they know how to safely use the thing.

Double-action triggers are great for preventing negligent discharges, even if it's only double-action on the first pull. It's essentially drop proof.

One is that, in any abduction or rape scenario, any weapon you have can potentially be taken from you and used against you. It's true of mace or knives as well, and it's the reason why a lot of women's self-defense groups advocate physical forms of defense.

Another thing is that if you actually kill someone with your weapon, will the Texas justice system side with you or against you? It depends on the judge or jury you get.

I think the Sheriff made good points about self-defense but he failed to draw the line at murdering someone, so his quote is bound to be taken out of context by a lot of people.
Having been trained in weapons retention by the Army, I can ashure you that taking a weapon away from an untrained person without getting shot in the process is very dificult. You would esentialy have to suprise the person from behind and subdue them imediatly. A gun holstered on someone else is often dificult to retreave. A holster is made for you to draw from, not another person to draw off you.

As soon as you can draw your weapon you can pull the trigger. You don't have to wait to have just the right grip or stance. It's a street fight, not hollywood.

SCOTUS has ruled that all such laws are unconstitutional.
