I suppose I could have worded that more clearly.

I haven't actually fired a government owned/issued weapon. We had laser rifles in basic when I went through because they were building a new firing range at the time.

I do agree with the sheriff, for the most part. I just think that the woman, and anyone really, needs to feel comfortable with the gun before she (whoever) carries it. But getting the CCP would be a good idea to get done just to get the time in to get used to it, whether they carry it everywhere or not.
I agree. A person who carries a weapon that he/she has never used, or that does not know HOW to use...is a fool, even if the weapon is as simple as a club.

You went through basic without firing a single rifle?

If there is an innocent bystander within range of the typical small handgun to be hit by a missed shot....shame on them for not helping out, preventing the need for that gun in the first place.

I mean, i get your point, not all bullets find their targets. But we are talking about hand guns that fit in a purse. Something with an effective range of about 50 yards. First of all, most rapists are not going to target and act in an area where there would BE an innocent bystander, for fear of interference or "being made" in a line up. Think...large empty parking lots, inside of a house/apt, or deserted park of some kind.

There is, and always will be a CHANCE that someone not involved could take a bullet. By they are no MORE innocent than the women who was about to be violently raped.
You'll note, also, in addition to what I emphasized for you to re peruse at your leisure, that another reading will also yield you the insight that at no point did I say never, always, or can't.

Then you have my sincere apologies for the misunderstanding. I am glad the article went national, it is very good advice for women and men everywhere, unfortunately, some states have laws to limit your right to self-defense.

Like CT, for instance. Which is to say...it's illegal. If someone punches me in the mouth, and I punch them back, and a cop sees it, we BOTH get charged with the same crime....assault. If someone breaks into my house, and I beat the crap out of them, or stab them, or impede them in any way, I get brought up on assault charges, and if I use a weapon, that too. I had a neighbor who caught a kid after that kid put wholes in his tires, brought him back to his house and sat on him in the yard while waiting for the cops. He got arrested for assault, and unlawful imprisonment. Kid got hit with a fine for vandalism. Neighbors trial didn't even have a jury, just a judge, and since he broke the law, off to jail he went. Cost him 50K all said and done, and 2 months sitting in a cell.

I got pulled over for speeding once, and they saw I had a buck knife in my car, in it's sheath. First, the blade was over 3 inches or whatever, which made it illegal to OWN, and since it was in a sheath, it was considered CONCEALED.

Holy cow that sucks. I didn't think even Massawhochits or New Yawk was that bad.

Mental note: never travel through Connecticut. I'd get life in prison for what I normally carry in the truck in SC.

Mr. Homeowner happened to be there and shot one of them in the leg. The thieves were arrested; the homeowner was not arrested, charged, taken for questioning or otherwise bothered other than being asked to make an incident report.

The only criticism the community had for the homeowner was that he should aim a little higher next time.
    That'd be York?

Politicians who make laws like that might well need shooting

Too quick. They need something more creative that will make the next jackass think twice.
Neither side in an argument can find the truth when both make an absolute claim on it.
