UK military steps up plans for Iran attack amid fresh nuclear fears

So long as the regulatory commission is not being bribed by big oil and instead of inspecting the rigs and making sure rules are followed, doing cocaine off of hooker's asses.

Not sure how much of that's true, but you would be correct. Might be a bang up idea to actually put people in those regulatory commission that know something about offshore drilling rigs, instead of writing up drilling companies for not having enough handrails and yellow lines painted on the deck.

Most of the people those government agencies don't know a BOP stack from a rat's ass.

That's what they found out after that huge BP fiasco (which apparently we've forgotten about now). The regulators were being bribed, and they really did have cocaine and hookers. I mean on some level I'm a little jealous I didn't have that job. But that's one of the overall problems with this extreme mixing of Corporation and State.

That;s right, we need to open up offshore drilling on all our coasts. Some of the largest reserves of natural gas in the world are just a few miles offshore.

as oil and NG are fungible and finite, our use of our own oil will still prop up the price of the oil under Iran, which would then sell oil to China and everywhere else. even if we could produce enough to meet our needs (which i doubt), middle eastern regimes would still profit from it.

the solution is to replace it with a new technology / strategy, and then hopefully export that strategy to other nations. that's the best way to defund the regimes.

Yeah, and what if Godzilla attacked, we wouldn't be prepared. What if zombie outbreak occured! Why are you ignoring the warnings.

If you want to play children's games, just let me know so I can ignore your posts.
We can make up a near infinite number of scenarios, how likely is this?
Very likely according to the experts.
Does the capability currently exist?
YES
Is there any indication that they really want to try to implement this?
YES
What is the success probability if so?
Very high according to the experts.

THOSE are the questions you need to answer. Not throwing out wild stories attempting to get me to piss myself over Iran.

And maybe you should actually learn something about the issue rather than pretending it doesn't exist.

Gibs numbers please.

Translation please.

Numbers, probabilities, demonstration of successful technology. That's what I want. Can you give it? I'm sure that perhaps it may have been looked into; but you're saying that they have the tech and it's likely and they've demonstrated intent to actually do so, etc. I just want some proof, some numbers, a measurement of the system which supports your claims. That somehow a single EMP weapon can take out the entire US electrical grid despite the fact that America is over 3000 miles wide.

Don't be absurd. No one said it would take out the "entire" electrical grid, but even if only 25% was taken out, this country would be in a world of hurt. The coverage area depends on the yield of the weapon and its altitude, but it is theoretically possible to take out the entire grid.

I've given you resources to actually learn something on the subject, but you'd rather ignore the problem.

Here's a few again. Come back after reading them and maybe we can have an intelligent conversation on the subject.

But, that's not free. Why not 1) put tens of thousands of American to work and 2) generate hundreds of billion in revenue all at the same time? Would that make too much sense?

Oil infrastructure is not free either. Replacing the oil infrastructure would 1) put far more than tens of thousands of Americans to work and 2) generate hundreds of billion in revenue (because you aren't spending the hundreds of billions for "foreign oil").

To be honest, we'll have to do both anyhow. Continue drilling for "domestic oil" (because we'll need it for other things besides burning it) and also replacing oil burning energy plants with alternative energy plants.

Both create jobs and revenue for the US. Sound like a good plan?

new domestic energy R&D and infrastructure construction would do both. we would have the long term cost savings of avoiding wars over increasingly scarce resources. and we would no longer be beholden to foreign powers which happen to be sitting on fossil fuels.

it's a matter of national security, and developing our long term energy strategy should be a top national priority.
