I don't blame her, not after Anita Hill was publicly smeared by putting her career on the line to speak up.

This is just general info I heard on the news today, for any others reading this who haven't already decided the females involved are greedy liars. Apparently some of the harassment occurred in front of others, and they aren't so bashful about discribing what they saw and heard. One specific incident described on the news is that several people have come forward to state that after a conference of some kind, several of the association employees were drinking and socializing until the wee hours. Apparently Cain had zeroed in on a low level staffer, and she was visibly uncomfortable with his attention. He went from blatant flirtation and off-color remarks, to repeatedly propositioning her. After she had refused several times to go to his room with him, he took hold of her arm and became insistant.

Apparently she left the hotel bar alone, and nobody knows what happened after that. Those same informants told the newsroom that it wasn't the first time Cain had made inappropriate requests of females working for the association. She later received a severance package of $35,000 (one year's salary, which proves she was fairly low-level), and nother female employee with similar complaints received a severance package of $45,000... again, one year's salary. Both signed confidentiality agreements.

I have to say, we have nothing beyond third-hand accounts and Cain's denials, yet some people are willing to immediately label these women as liars. They didn't ask to be put in the public eye. They have moved on, probably to new careers which they don't want ruined by a public political spectacle. The way they are being spoken about in the media, blogs and on forums like this prove that going public would be personal disaster for them. They are the ones being "lynched", and they can't legally speak in their own defense.

You must be buying Cain's crap.

His claim that all he said was "you are as tall as my wife" is pathetic as Congressman Larry Craig's lie he was just picking up toilet paper off the airport restroom.

You stick with Herman. All the way.

Re: Lawyer: Cain accuser wants to tell her side of story

Not knowing how to act like a politician is likely why his numbers were not affected by the story.
Not affected??

It's been reported that two female employees accused Cain of making unwanted sexual advances in the 1990s, and they received financial payments to leave the trade association he headed at the time. Cain says he was falsely accused and never sexually harassed anyone. Do you think this is a serious matter, or not serious?
  • [*=1]Serious: 39%
  • [*=1]Not Serious: 55%

Does this situation make you more likely to vote for Cain for president, less
likely, or doesn't it make a difference in your vote?
  • [*=1]More Likely: 4%
  • [*=1]Less Likely: 23%
  • [*=1]No Difference: 69%

ABC News/Washington Post Poll. Oct. 31-Nov. 3, 2011. N=438 adults nationwide who are Republican or lean Republican. Margin of error ± 5.5.

The damage has already been done. Cain has already been exposed as someone who is not ready for prime time.

that didn't stop thousands of retards from voting for Obama :lamo

Re: Lawyer: Cain accuser wants to tell her side of story

Wow, make assumptions much?

Nope, just read your own words where you said: "I do love how people are quick to smear the women based on nothing but what they want reality to be, with exactly no evidence. That is just about as low as you can go."

I just pointed out how the last democrat handled that when it happened to him.

For the record: I did not approve of attacking Paula Jones.

Well, good for you. I suppose we'd have to take your word for it now, since there is no way to verify that in any way.

Also, that was simply a diversion since it totally and 100 % did not address the topic in any way.

Again, if it is a diversion, then read your own words, you are diverting the thread, why?

At least I am honest about my political lean. Wish more would be....

Well, to be fair, I don't think Cain ever had a real serious chance at winning the party nomination to begin with. But it is an indicator at just how vitriolic, and off message this Presidential campaign is bound to be concerning sticking to the issues.

I guess we can thank Dear Leader for that as well....

Politico’s Ben Smith and Jonathan Martin offer a story with perhaps an unsurprising headline: “Obama plan: Destroy Romney.” Team Obama sees Mitt Romney as the probable GOP nominee, and they won’t wait until the general election to offer attack lines. “Barack Obama’s aides and advisers are preparing to center the president’s reelection campaign on a ferocious personal assault on Mitt Romney’s character and business background.”

But the anonymous strategists Politico interviewed don’t seem to remember the Gabrielle Giffords shooting in their usage of metaphor. "Unless things change and Obama can run on accomplishments, he will have to kill Romney," said a “prominent Democratic strategist aligned with the White House.”

So, I guess we can see who will be diverting what according to Politico.

Re: Lawyer: Cain accuser wants to tell her side of story

From the article....

Cain exhibited no inappropriate sexual behavior during the dinner, though he did order two $400 bottles of wine and stuck the women with the bill, she said.

Oh My GAWD! He asked someone to dinner! The shock of it all.....

"I couldn't swear that he had some untoward intentions, but we all thought his tone was suspect and we didn't feel comfortable putting him in touch with that woman," Donella recalled.

They could swear? and they thought in intentions were suspect? So let me get this straight....He invited a woman to dine with him, nothing happened, nothing was said earlier, yet decades later when he decides to run for President their thoughts of his intentions some 12 to 20 years later are proof by God, that he is a scoundrel....And people wonder why people on the right say that Black Conservatives are inappropriately and unfairly smeared and targeted....

Who do you think is behind bringing up this old business?

If the Dems had knowledge of this they would have hung on to it and sprung it if Cain became the Republican Presidential candidate. This is too early to use because by the time next year the Short Term Memory of the American Voter would have forgotten all about it.

This has the smell of the folks who brought you the Swift Boaters. You can all figure out who is behind this.

Since many are just dismissing the two paid settlements by the Restaurant Association I would love to find out how many sexual harrassment settlements has that organizations has had to pay out for other presidents.

Well, I have no idea if it is just one group, or campaign doing this at the moment. I don't think it is either the campaigns of the right, nor Obama at the moment, but it sure could be one of the independent PAC's out there, and ofcourse the media who love to run these days with baseless accusations....

In any case, I also think that the reason for going so hard at this is that the liberals in the media, whom we know are in the tank for anything Obama, can't figure out who Obama will face, and that is frustrating because they don't know who to attack on his behalf.

There are many who still believe that Elvis is still alive and I have a feeling many here will never believe Cain could have groped women even if they had a video of it.

Nonetheless, not one but two cash settlements for sexual harassment is hardly baseless accusations.

Ok, so you ask me a question that I thought that you wanted to discuss, and then I get this type of dismissive crap back as a response. So you really didn't want an answer, just an opening to get in some inane, sarcastic one liner eh? Talk to the hand.

Nonetheless, not one but two cash settlements for sexual harassment is hardly baseless accusations.

Settlements mean nothing other than the legal dept. decided that it was cheaper to settle than litigate. BTW, was anyone charged? Convicted? Aren't those the bars set largely by libs when these things come up?

Re: Lawyer: Cain accuser wants to tell her side of story

The crux of the matter is that the people who are likely to vote for Cain have to make a decision either to ignore these allegations, refuse to believe them or move on to another candidate. Let's not kid ourselves, there is some truth to these allegations. He was a bit of a cad and tried to get a little nookie. How unusual for a man. No not really. We already know this is not an indication that you can't make a good president (See Kennedy and Clinton and most likely a few others). I don't like the complete hypocrisy of many in the media who excused and dismissed what Bill Clinton did while speaking with moral outrage over what Cain is accused of doing. But that is politics. Cain doesn't have the kind of support in the media and spinmeisters that Clinton had so I am going to be very surprised if he weathers the storm. If the money dries up he is done. I never jumped on the Cain bandwagon but I am always intrigued by someone who is not the usual career politician and lawyer. I had hope for him as the process continued. If he were a strong candidate, if I thought he was the best thing for the country, right now, I would still vote for him.

Re: Lawyer: Cain accuser wants to tell her side of story

I don't consider her story to be sexual harrassment. She wasn't an employee of the company any longer. She was out on a date. Does every guy who makes a pass get to have accusations of sexual harrassment thrown at him later? If he didn't say, "You want a job, don'tcha?" there was absolutely nothing wrong with this encounter. If he did say that, then, well, he's smarmy. And who knows if he said that? We never will...but she'll get her 15 minutes.

This lady should've kept her mouth shut. She looks the fool.

as long as he wasn't her employer and he didn't say "You want to KEEP your job, don'tcha?" all he was doing was "negotiating" ;) sure, it's smarmy but it isn't illegal.
