Report: Fights erupt among Occupy Wall Street protesters

Fights are erupting among Occupy Wall Street protesters, so much so that one corner of Zuccotti Park has emerged where protesters say they won't go for fear of their safety, the New York Daily News is reporting.
Police officers also have been warned of "dangerous instruments" being concealed in cardboard tubing, the News says it has been told by unidentified police sources.
"There is a lot of infighting in the park," a police source told the news organization. "There is one part of the park where they won't even go at night."
Meantime, Ed Mullins, president of the Sergeants Benevolent Association, is warning protesters at Zuccotti Park in Manhattan that he will pursue civil suits against anyone who assaults a union member.
"New York's police officers are working around the clock as the already overburdened economy in New York is being drained by 'occupiers' who intentionally and maliciously instigate needless and violent confrontations with the police," the News reports Mullins said in a statement.
But protesters tell the News they have been the victims of police brutality, not the other way around.
"We have been brutalized and mass-arrested by the NYPD," said protester Jen Waller, 24, of Brooklyn. "They can threaten us all they want. We've got lawyers, too."

Wow, a bunch of people who are trying to live together in close quarters have differing ideas and disagree about them.

Also, I won't comment on whether or not the confrontations with the police are violent or not (I'm not there, so I don't really know), but I would certainly say that they are needful. The movement is about standing up to the fatcats, the politicians whom they've bribed, and the enforcement of policies enacted because of those bribes.

But yeah, this is not really noteworthy. Hundreds of people living in such close proximity and fights NOT breaking out would be much more unusual.

Agreed, Pasch. It's not surprising that fights are breaking out among the group.

So the socialist experiment in Zucatti park is breaking down into violence, and threats eh?.....This is a joke......

It's funny that people will believe a NY Post article more than their fellow activists.

You have no idea if this article is true or not, and in the least you don't know the severity. There are over 10,000 people at OWS right now. Are you saying that a few skirmishes means the movement is ineffective?

Please, get a clue. You're willfully giving into and supporting a propaganda machine whose soul purpose is to discredit this movement. You won't find one positive article in either the NY Times or NY Post about the OWS protests. They all blast it in some way or another.

Instead of letting mass media do the thinking for you, I suggest you walk down to your local Occupy movement and talk to, you know, real people about what's going on?

Wait, the communists aren't communing well? What's up wit dat?

I wouldn't be able to stand living like that, either.

Breathing fecal matter for months on end will rot a brain. I am shocked about this new development I tell you, absolutely shocked.:lamo

It is pretty amazing over this amount time that many people could go to a local OWS protest.

This is as funny as Oz. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!!!

"This COULD be a made up story...ignore it. Ignore the reports of sexual assaults. Dont believe your lying eyes...go talk to someone else and ignore this! These are not the protesters you are looking for. Come on...WORK dammit..."

Seriously...you could have gone with "with this number of people participating its shocking we dont have MORE violent incidents. You could have said...how can you expect this segment of society to be immune to any other-it doesnt change the importance of the protests. Instead you went with...

Un UH!!!!

Geezus...son...I'll handle the PR for your bad press from now on.

Looks like all those spoiled brats, that enver had to clean up their own **** houses don't dig the real world, too much.

I reckon they're waiting for the government to come in and do it for them. :lamo

This is ****ing hillarious. Literally, every day that goes by, there's another story that makes the OWS'ers into an even bigger joke than they were the day before.

The cooks are pissed about having to work their asses off; to feed free-loaders; the OWS'ers are pissed about their **** getting redistributed; they hate Jews; they hate Capitalism; they want their rights respected, but to hell with everyone else's; they are fighting each other; and the OWS'er supporters actually want to talk about the, "merits", of the movement. :rofl

........sources said Thursday that several fights have been reported in the park........"There is a lot of infighting in the park," a police source said. "There is one part of the park where even they don't go at night. They call it The Ghetto.".........

Read more: Occupy Wall St. gets dangerous; NYPD threatens to sue rowdy demonstrators who initiate violence

There go those unnamed sources again.

"There is one part of the park where even they don't go at night. They call it The Ghetto."

I figure this a whopper of a story for a park that measures approximately 300 feet X 90 feet.

Anarchy in action.

'Nuff said.

All they are saying...is give socialism a chance...

Actually, despite being leaderless, their message in the past 2 weeks or so at least, has been pretty consistent, and that is to get big business out of DC. I think they are going about it wrong...but the message stands.

Yes...THATS what they really want. Because that is the core and source of all of Americas ills. Me...I believe they all got there and realized they didnt know what the hell they were thinking and have tried to come up with something that sounds noble. But we'll see...Im certain they are all so upset with corporate influence in DC that they will refuse to vote for the biggest recipients of corporate cash...

Thats 'sarcasm' BTW...

Oh, no doubt. That's WHY they are at wallstreet in the first place. Because to protest the real issue, DC, would mean admitting that they themselves put those bastards into office in the first place. Congressmen don't just walk in and say, "Nice office, I think I'll take this job after all..."

All they are saying...is give socialism a chance...

Sounds like that's exactly what they want...as long as they're not the ones that have to be the socialists.

Yep. MOST (nod to Ikari...I believe him when he says he doesnt and wont) of them voted dem before, and they will vote dem this time around, even though dems are repeatedly the ones with their pockets stuffed. Its pretty comical with some of the interviews on the UTube where people rant about those contributions, then when directly asked if they will vote for Obama, the immediately slip into the song and dance. Pathetic. Still ahvent heard ANY of them acknowledge their role in stupid financial decisions or the University and government complicity in soaking students for tuition. Nah...its got to be the evil bankers.

Oh its good old fashioned socialism at its finest...the rich and elite will profit from their little ruckus, someone else pays for the food and expenses, and for all their talk about concern over corporations these weiners whine about having to share their stuff with the homeless.
