Economy expanded at fastest pace in a year as summer waned

My bad, GDP did meet economists' expectations. It exceeded mine.

Overall recent reports are good news because it was looking more and more like we might be sliding back into recession.

If it was because of increased production it would have been a good thing. Instead it was because of inflation.

Who's to say we are not? I've been hearing that 4th quarter numbers are far more important as any gauge than that of third quarter, especially when the numbers being released now will be revised at least two more times. I am sure that revision will not garner the headlines that this initial release to the press has, especially if the revision is negative.

Recent reports of 3 months of slightly positive data are all you expect after 5 years of econmic decline? Are you really that in love with Obama? I would like to do a study of your mental and social habits compared to that of a woman that is abused in a relationship that continues to go back to the same undesirable situation.

We never slid out of a recession, it was the media and Obama filling your easily influenced mind with propoganda.

Try to slide back into reality and out of your Fox-induced state of delusion. IOW, pull your head out.

First of all, the economy has not been declining for five years. Your brain seems extra smokified today.

Second, anyone with a grasp of reality understands that there is no way to turn this ship around over night. Worst recession in three generations -- not going to go away in two or three years, no matter who is in the WH.

Third, Obama is doing about as well as anyone could, given the knee-jerk opposition he faces.

It is possible, of course. But it looks a lot better than it did a few weeks ago. It would look better still if Congress passed Obama's jobs plan.

But its a free country and you can try to 'debate' any way you want to. Just do not be so sensitive when the flaws are pointed out to you.

Thank your for your permission... OH, Lord of the forum...I will work on my sensitivity...just as a reminder, you started the one-liners...please don't hurt me...Lord of the forum.

Ultimately, I believe you're right. The reports are good news. If in a few weeks the economist 'correct' these numbers, which I believe they will, I DON'T believe they will adjust them down to negative, positive is positive. Fourth quarter numbers will be even better with farm harvests and holiday sales. Employment numbers will continue to improve however slowly and even accelerate as more of the private debt is paid off.

When it is an actual Jobs plan without payoffs to unions and other friendly donors, and looks out for the bulk of the American people then I am sure you would see something different than the scam Obama is trying to pass off as something new...Hell, he can't even get away from using the same language as he did with the first stimulus that failed.

Your expectation were really that low? :lamo

The economy isn't, nor has it, "turned around".
we have work to do yet, that much is true, but we are headed in the right direction. my expectations low? nope...i , unlike disgruntled conservatives/republicans, did not expect obama to be able to fix the mess he inherited in less than 30 days after taking office...i figured it would take himto about midway or slightly thereafter into his first term to get things moving in the right direction.

It is only moving in the right direction if you believe, and latch on to the first numbers put out there. We have seen over this term, the Obama administration releasing good numbers only to have them revised later to damn near nothing. Some would even begin to say that these numbers are a lie.

and that 'some' would include you, i'm sure....so tell me j, do you hate obama so much that you want the economy to tank, just so you can get a republican in the white house? would you really see your fellow Americans struggle for longer than necessary, just to get someone of your liking into office?

The first stimulus was a success, but too small to generate momentum. This second round might have put us over the top ... but is still probably too small.

Who said anything close to that? You know, Strawman arguments only serve to show that you really don't believe in the argument you are promoting here.

I tell ya, I don't like at all seeing the struggle that people are going through, and in my own household am feeling the effects of this as well. My wife has not worked in here field of career for three years.

Regardless of playing the blame game, we have to look at the trends, an numbers, and patterns that have shown the record of this administration over the term, and so far it has all been excuse after excuse, and finger pointing like what you provided in your post.

No, I don't want this country to fail for a political gain, but it is what it is.

You really consider a rise in unemployment, and a stagnant economy a success? Well, as long as pet projects, and big donors get paid off right?

If that is your idea of a reasonable substitute for actual presentation evidence in debate, you need much much more than my permission or working on your sensitivity. You badly need education. I would urge you to look at a local community college debate class where you will learn the wonders of building an evidence file and its uses to bolster your case.

You may want to begin with your comment about government debt and Greece in which you presented no evidence of any kind. That is what started this exchange back in post 26

from myself - haymarket
The major problem facing the nation today is not the level of debt but the stagnation of the economy and the problems that are associated with it like unemployment, under employment, the decline of the middle class, the disparity in wealth and its increasing divide, and other things all which spell very bad things for a democratic republic.

and your response introducing Greece to the discussion

Wonder if Greece (etal) feel the same?.

In no way, shape or form did you ever take ever so much as a one inch baby step to offer any evidence for this inclusion of a foreign nation into a discussion about American policies. You may as well said

I wonder if Nigeria feels the same.... or
I wonder if Greenland feels the same... or
I wonder if Narnia feels the same.

AGAIN, thank you oh Lord of the Forum...your continued condescension is so helpful.

Stagnant is better than freefall.

Stagnant is better than freefall.

At least freefall has a bottom, where rebuilding can take place....This putting off the tough medicine is only going to result in more pain...

Let it bottom, and we can rise for real instead of this fake propaganda being lapped up by the masses.

I’m done with the pissin match.

I was merely responding to your post (as you stated succinctly above):

For which you provided no evidence. I felt that since you began this debate thusly I needed no validation for my post.

In no way, shape or form did you ever take ever so much as a one inch baby step to offer any evidence for this inclusion of a foreign nation into a discussion about American policies.

But again, neither did you for you opinion.

I would surmise you are one of the lucky few who would not actually hit the bottom. Perspectives change when discussion about which rug will be pulled out is about the one under YOU.

See, this is just foolish on several levels....Allow me.

1. One problem you run into Chuck is that you tend to assume to make your argument fit rather than using common sense. If you had bothered to take even a cursory look at any of my posting to know about me before your attempt to take it personal, I have made no bones about posting that I am a Tractor Trailer driver that contract hauls for a major grocery chains bakery. I am a company driver so from that you can assume that while I do make more than the nations median income, it isn't much more than that. Additionally, my wife whom is a graphic artist, currently unemployed, so things are really tight. So would I hit bottom? hell yes, probably before the rug is even completely out from under me. But I don't think that government is the answer.

2. Your point is also just a little more than foolish in the sense that you believe that ALL working people, or poor must be democrat, liberal, or socialist in nature. That is a false assumption.

Care to try again?

Remember what was said 'Commerce Department...estimate'. This will get downgraded in a few weeks when the real numbers are known AND no one is paying attention. The same happened after the first and second quarter this year.

Further, the news from Europe sounds good but there is nothing concrete about it...yet. We'll see.

Predictable, and no one noticed...

Q3 GDP Revised Downward To 1.8%

The last thing the Republicans want is any kind of economic recovery until after the 2012 General Election.

Much of the current problem stems from the EU and a new Republican president, like Obama, is not in a position to resolve that situation.
