Economy expanded at fastest pace in a year as summer waned

The major problem facing the nation today is not the level of debt but the stagnation of the economy and the problems that are associated with it like unemployment, under employment, the decline of the middle class, the disparity in wealth and its increasing divide, and other things all which spell very bad things for a democratic republic.

Wonder if Greece (etal) feel the same?

Because, as we all know, every country in the world is exactly the same, faces exactly the same circumstances, and should be governed exactly the same. It must be comforting to live with such a simplistic worldview.

Again #5...thanks.

Since that is not our main problem

So now it wasn't all of the bad debt on the bank books (via the bad debt the home owners took out) that was the main problem? :lamo

And to think that you believe if someone disagrees with you on what the "main problem" was, that this means they are a "sycophant"? Can you just reasonably debate for a change? Maybe get into the holiday spirit a little early?

True, not only was is it our domestic issue, it's also the lingering issue abroad.

Bad debt on top of bad debt. We won't see any grand growth until we see that all that bad debt has been absorbed...and it's not even close. The market knows this, I thought it was common knowledge. And if we go as Japan did, it won't be happpening any time soon.

And unfortunately it appears to be 'conventional wisdom' of our illustrious leaders (and others on this board) that 'tinkering' with the ecomomy will help but ultimately will further delaying the recovery.

Read what it says........Unfortunately you have to decipher all the information. Actual factory orders did not go up, they were quite sluggish. People did spend more though which means most of this is likely in price increases.

Inflation is great for Wall Street and certian segments of industry but not so much for main street. Well, pretty much not at all when you figure that people didn't actually buy more things they just paid more which is why we are not seeing a bump in hiring.

Everything is good for wall street...nothing good is coming back down....it only flows up and thats the problem

You simply do not recognize it when you see it.

I am in the Holiday Spirit.... Bastille Day.

things are proceeding as i expected they would...i figured it would take a couple of years to get things turned around, and it does appear we are headed in the right direction...not that we don't have work to do, but we are heading the right way.

Your expectation were really that low? :lamo

The economy isn't, nor has it, "turned around".

Wait, overspending and debt can cause catastrophic global conditions!?!
The moral hazard of borrowing our way out rather than working our way out, is a bad thing?!?

That sounds like sycophant-speak!

Spending too much money is un-patriotic. The Messiah said so.

This is bull****. I don't give a **** about 2-3 months of "positive" numbers when the last 5 years has been downhill. These news articles are purley media propoganda.

The Libbos are ready to grab on to any sliver of good news. You can't blame them. They got their big chance and they cocked it up. My heart goes out to them, actually.

I have no idea what this shorthand nonsense is suppose to mean

It means that one typically resorts to personal insults if they have no other valuable contribution to make in an open discussion...as you did.

You, sir, are a compassionate conservative. ;)

Your attempt at wit falls far short. Go back and see what the exchange was

you attempted the insult with this remark

Wonder if Greece (etal) feel the same?

I replied with this right on the money question

Do you live in Greece? Perhaps that is why your perspective is so skewed?

and then you responded with the silly #5 bit about an insult.

It seems that you attempted to be both clever and witty and fell short of both by at least half. And then when your lack of clarity was questioned, you resort to even more of that pattern. And to think you have both the gall and temerity to actually complain about making a contribution to the discussion!

Come back in a thousand posts or so when you have more experience and learn how this is done.

How should I not take this as blatent condescension? Is it ME being 'clever' or 'witty'? If so, I bow to your eminence and dominance…Oh Lord of the forum…I’m sure the income from posting 11k times will carry your far in life. Good luck with that.

Further, yes you did insult...insinuating that my perspective was skewed.

My question regarding the thoughts of Greece was related to your comment about this country's debt level, economic stagnation, un/underemployment, decline of the middle class, etal. My point was serious as Greece's debt has essentially left them at the whim of the rest of the 'Eurozone powers'. They too have the same issues that we do ergo my question.

What article did you read? More than expected..."GDP...matched economists' expectations", unemployment down slightly..."not fast enough to make a dent in unemployment."...'recovery's pace is still too weak to lower a jobless rate"

What number is 'spin'?

My bad, GDP did meet economists' expectations. It exceeded mine.

Overall recent reports are good news because it was looking more and more like we might be sliding back into recession.

Recent reports of 3 months of slightly positive data are all you expect after 5 years of econmic decline? Are you really that in love with Obama? I would like to do a study of your mental and social habits compared to that of a woman that is abused in a relationship that continues to go back to the same undesirable situation.

We never slid out of a recession, it was the media and Obama filling your easily influenced mind with propoganda.

If you wanted to make a point about Greece, then make it instead of simply tossing it out as a shorthand right wing meme and all here are suppose to fill in the blanks because we have heard the same rant on Bill O'Reilly or Rush. If you want to make a point about Greece and its debt problems and relate it to the USA and its situation, statistics, facts and data would greatly go a very long way in attempting to make that point. The you may have some ground upon which to state that "they to have the same issues that we do". But you never developed that or provided any reality for your shorthand response.

But its a free country and you can try to 'debate' any way you want to. Just do not be so sensitive when the flaws are pointed out to you.
