Chemical bomb tossed into Occupy Maine encampment

That must be it, then. When I hung out with guys they were too busy trying to get into my pants or talking about getting into my pants, or talking about getting into somebody else's pants, etc.
Exactly. Of course boys want in your pants. But when adolescent boys can't get in your pants they relieve their pent up frustrations in other ways, sometimes by exploding things.

For instance, if you have a brother, you may have noticed that when you were kids, at some point he bought a glue together model of a '57 chevy or a B-52 bomber from the local hobby shop and spent hours holed up in his room meticulously glueing all the kazillion pieces together until it was perfect.

Then you never saw the model again.

That is because as soon as his masterpiece was finished he & his friends took it somewhere far away from adults and girls, stuck an M-80 in it and blew it up.

:rofl that's too true.

Also what I find hard to believe that it was this is the fact that it was thrown out of a car. Doing what they did and timing it so it doesn't go off in the car seems like it would be a little tricky.
Not really. The bottle can't explode until you cap the bottle.

It's basic 8th grade chemistry.

2Al + 2NaOH + 6H2O -> 2Na+ + 2[Al(OH)4]- + 3H2

All you need is common houshold items generally found in your mom's kitchen. Draino from under the sink(NaOH), aluminium foil (Al) and water (H2O).

As you can see by the equation this chemical reaction produces a lot of hydrogen gas (H2)

When you put a cap on the bottle the hydrogen gas pressure builds up in the bottle until.... BOOM!

The thing is, there is still going to be some lye left over when the bottle bursts. Since sodium hydroxide is very caustic, if it gets in your eyes you are going to have a really bad day. Wear safety goggles. And no smoking.

My only complaint is that it was the wrong sort of chemical weapon to be tossing into that sort of crowd.

Why would a left leaning person bomb a left leaning protest?

Is OWS really a left leaning protest (I know that is the speculation)? I went to Occupy Hartford and it was mostly Tea Partiers, however there were some of the OWS crowd (as depicted in the news reports). Both groups do not like what government involvement is doing to the economy.

The right wing doesn't like the OWS protests very much.

PORTLAND — Occupy Maine protesters say Sunday morning's attack with a chemical explosive has left them with a mixture of anxiety and resolve.

"We are more motivated to keep doing what we're doing," said Stephanie Wilburn, of Portland, who was sitting near where the chemical mixture in a Gatorade bottle was tossed at 4 a.m. Sunday. "They have heard us and we're making a difference."

Wilburn said she was startled and briefly lost hearing in her left ear when the device exploded beneath a table about 10 feet away. Wilburn's hearing returned and police said no injuries were reported.

Portland police Sgt. Glen McGary said the bomb was thrown into the camp’s kitchen, a tarped area where food is cooked and served. Protest organizers said the explosion lifted a large table about a foot off the ground.

"There was no fire . . . We had a good 20 feet of thick smoke rolling out from under the table," Wilburn said. They could see the "G" on the 24-ounce bottle and its orange cap, as well as bits of silver metal, she said.

Complete fail.
There's no proof that the conservatives are responsible for the attack. Suspicious? Yes. Evidence? No.
I also doubt that the police will be able to find out who the culprits are

Anyone actually watch the video?

The 'kitchen' area is about 40 feet away from the street, is separated by the street by not only a 6 foot high fence but also a significant number of...what do they call those things...big...things with wood...oh yeah...TREES...trees covered in these little green leafy looking things...not saying it isnt possible, but Id like anyone to consider the logistics of how far you can throw a gatorade bottle from inside a moving car over a fence and through trees without anyone actually seeing you do it. Not saying it IS or ISNT what happened...maybe someone just walked by and dropped it...still...that girl they interviewed sure knew a lot about how to make a drano bomb...

Or maybe it was the OWS protestors trying to make conservatives look bad?

But it was probably just some ill conceived and not very well thought out prank...

Not like it's rocket science. I knew a lot about those "bombs" in Jr. High as well.

Joke, Ikari...Joke. Until we know something we dont 'know' anything.

(hell...I was making test tube bombs in ISCS III back in 1977)

Or, it could have been a set up by the OWS'ers in an attempt to create their own Reichstag moment.

I mean, no one got hurt. It doesn't sound like it was a very serious attempt to actually hurt anyone.

Seriously? You're going to bring conspiracy theories into this? With all the Occupiers being arrested for simply exercising their Constitutional right to peacefully assemble and protest to voice their grievences do you really think they'd go to such lengths to bring this kind of negative attention onto themselves?

Granted, anything is possible, but really, apdst?

The OWS people are all drugged up perverts.

And you're basing this assessment on what exactly? What you see on FoxNews or all the other television news outlets?

I'm one of the Occupiers; attended my first local rally just over two weeks ago and plan to participate again when I'm able. But in the mean time, I'm speaking up for the Occupiers as much as I can while also pointing out the movement's shortcomings same as some of you did when sticking up for the Tea Party movement.

Look, we're not all poor, homeless, deadbeats who are standing around with our hands held out with no coherent thought waiting for Uncle Sam to come save us. Most of the Occupy protesters are ordinary people, a mixture from all social-economic backgrounds who are speaking out against a vast array of issues that have been building up in this country for years: income inequality, high cost of living, political corruption, corporate greed; you name it, they're pissed about it. This is why it's so difficult to pen down any one thing the Occupiers are upset about - the list is looooooong. If you've read the Declaration you'd know this.

Michael Moore was on CNN's Piers Morgan show last night. I didn't watch the interview because of him; I watched to hear what people in the audience, as well as those who Tweeted or phoned in had to say. You have college graduates with Master's Degrees who have past-due student loans in the tens of thousands of dollars that they can't pay off because they can't find a job. You have middle-aged, hard working Americans who may or may not have made a mistake and go home mortgages that were beyond their financial means but are trying to hard to meet their obligations but are barely able to stay afloat. You have people who have worked hard all their life who are now retired but have medical situations and are now finding it increasingly difficult to pay their medical bills. Their entire life savings and retirement is being eaten up by medical expenses. And you people are mocking them? Un-freaking believable!!!

Get out from in front of your flat screen TVs and go to one of these Occupy rallies near where you live OR read the Declaration...better yet, take up my challenge to find news articles that address the concerns as outlined in the Declaration and then come back and say these people have no reason to be protesting. I guarantee that most of you when start really digging deep into the issues won't be able to mock the movement for very long. The only thing that will keep you from seeing the truth is your own partisanship and selfishness.

You know, I've actually tried to do that.... The only problem is that I can't seem to find them. Occupy Worcester (MA), has less than 100 individuals "attending", despite being based in the second largest (population) city in New England. A city that boasts nearly a dozen colleges and universities, including Liberal bastions like Clark and Becker and schools where the kids come out with massive debt bills like Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). Instead of "Occupying" the Worcester Common (right behind city hall) these people have relegated themselves to Lake Park, which is literally about as far outside of where ANYONE in the City would ever see them as possible. They didn't even have the balls to resist when the Worcester PD threw them off the Common the one night they attempted to stay there.

I mock the Occupiers the same way I mock the Tea Partiers.... Give me a call when you people are ready to pick up the pitchforks, torches, and rifles. Until you're actually ready to DO something, get the hell out of the way of those of us who have lives we have to deal with. If you block the street in front of my car you're going to get run over, and I might just back up to make sure I got the job done right the first time.

Well, we're not dealing with a bunch of rocket scientists here. And, you're right, it's not impossible that someone had the bright idea to pull some kind of stunt to arouse anger among the ranks of the OWS'ers, so as to get the revolution really rolling.

Let's not act like something like that has never happened before.

In reality, it's usually a Libbo that's involved in something stupid.

And thus, my point is made. Sadly.

:spank:

Just goes to show that with some people you just can't impart common sense nor appeal to their moral character no matter how hard you try. Yes, it is very sad indeed.

Let's not act like something like that has never happened before.

Nor should you act like you have anything amounting to reasonable suspicion or proof over that accusation either.

One way or the other...right?

Yeah, I imagine it has. Espeicially since your movement was proven to be crap by, um, yourself. :lamo

Wanna talk about all those TP'ers that were arrested, again?

And just how have I proven that? By agreeing that there have been arrest not because the Occupy protesters have been violent, but rather because they've violated minor civil ordinance laws, i.e., assembling in a public place beyond established curfew or blocking pedestrian/automotive traffic on a major roadway? That doesn't prove that the movement is crap. It just proves that people are willing to stand up for what they believe in and protest using non-violent actions.

I would buy your argument IF events were panning out akin to the riots and police brutality from the Civil Rights era, but have you seen people being beaten with night sticks? Or cops using attack dogs and fire hoses to disperse the crowds? Have you seen the protesters themselves lash out in violence against local law enforcement? Have you seen people resisting arrest?

When you have apposing voices lets listen to the voice that produces wealth for our country and ignore the voice that is a little slurred by drugs and lack of sleep, who is wanting us to give them more drugs and not wake them up so early.

As I've already pointed out, those who oppose this movement are only going by what they see in the news from the NYC protests; you're not looking at the other protests that aren't on Wall Street. Even still, not everyone among the NYC protesters are as what's being depicted on television. As stated just a few posts back, many of these people are ordinary citizens from various backgrounds. Some are indeed poor; others are just barely getting by financially. And still others are doing pretty good for themselves. But they're all upset with what's taking place between Corporate American and Congress and they want the corruption and inequality to stop! It's really not that difficult to see unless you're purposely trying to ignore it.

What would that be from the TEA Party people?
A fine example of what I'm talking about; clearly, you've ignored all the racist signs and other visceral language used at some Tea Party rallies before they got their foot in Congress. Not saying that the entire movement was like that, but even Herman Cain has recently admitted that there are some racist elements among the Tea Party. If he can admit it, why can't you? And he's Black!!!
