Iran was a democracy before the US set up a puppet regime. This whole idea that the Shah was bringing democracy to Iran is amusing, to say the least.

Well this is all very encouraging. I hope they stick to the spirit of the document. But I will remind folks that our Declaration of Independence declared "that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights," while very writer of the document owned slaves. Slavery continued in this country for a long time afterward.

So while a budding nation may declare certain things, they won't necessarily follow them. I hope Libya DOES follow their own declarations. I sincerely do. The adoption of Sharia law sounds ominous to me. I doesn't necessarily mean anything bad. But it could. We have friendly relations with other nations that employ Sharia law, and that's all I care about.
