Jobs wasn't asking Obama to create the same business environment as Rwanda or even China. He was a classical liberal, not a shill for the failures of statism. And he was a capitalist.

Steve Jobs told President Barack Obama he was “headed for a one-term presidency,” citing the U.S.’s competitive disadvantages with China and a “crippled” education system, a new biography of the former Apple CEO indicates.

“You’re headed for a one-term presidency,” Jobs told Obama in a meeting last year where he asserted that the White House needed to be more friendly toward business, according to the Huffington Post, which obtained a copy of Walter Isaacson’s forthcoming book, “Steve Jobs.”

Jobs also told Obama that “regulations and unnecessary costs” put the United States at a competitive disadvantage with China, where companies can build factories more cheaply.

Is that what Steve Jobs wanted from Obama?

Steve Jobs would have fouled the air over Cupertino if we let him?

No. He would have put it where poor people live that rich people will never decide they want.

Let's not go overboard and say he was a classical liberal. The libertarians might have some qualms there. He was left of center (still influenced by the counterculture of the 1960s), but yes, he was a capitalist.

What disqualifies him as a classical liberal?

Yeah, he spent his entire life creating things many millions of people liked and bought and found useful. He knows more than someone else who spent his entire adult life protesting and tearing things down.

Was Job's a capitalist or a pragmatist? either way there are legions of Apple owners that think Job's was God! Doesn't matter.. Liberals are liberals first.. Always!

Tim-

I view Steve Jobs as John Lennon like. It will take 30 years to unravel who he was.

"more friendly toward business..." What kind of businesses are we talking here? Because most of the power in D.C. is extremely friendly toward some businesses.

Jobs was indeed a liberal. His various businesses were some of the most pro-gay businesses in California in the 80s, he was indeed a protestor during his days at Berkley and his company employed or had people on the board of directors such as Al Gore (still does). Apple also does a lot of green stuff. Anyways, it could have had more to do with stuff other than pollution.
