Thank goodness for the vision of Bush because then Obama wouldn't have a blueprint to follow.
any evidence that the final set-up is really part of Bush's plan from 2008?

Since he wasnt able to accomplish his goal, Id call it his 'norm'.

I have no problem with the withdrawal. I do have a problem with his trumpeting this like it is something he accomplished and his glad-handers rushing to proclaim 'victory'. Still no word yet on who we were fighting in 'the war' for the last 7 years and who we appraently triumphed over all of a sudden.

In other news, Obama proclaims that there will in fact be a 'tomorrow'. And the crowd goes wild...

That was Obama's doing. Bush simply signed a document and left the next POTUS to do the hard work.
Good grief !!! For you to claim that Obama somehow "negotiated" the keeping of troops at our embassy compound is absurd. There was no heavy-lifting by teh U.S. on any part of the continuing arrangement.

I am not bashing the refusal to submit to further Iraqi demands in order for us to maintain a larger troop presence, and I have already agreed that bringing them home now is the correct decision. But Obama rates no credit worth a hoot here, and especially no credit for the imaginary achievements that you note.

The object was never to stay in Iraq forever. They need to stand on their own two feet at some point. And so what if the conditions aren't perfect. No country lives in "perfect" conditions anywhere. What the US needed was smooth exit strategy. One that didn't look like we were "running away" or "giving up." I have zero doubts that the US could've brokered a deal with Iraq that maintained a US troop presence. Their refusal to offer immunity simply provided a convenient reason to leave. How long do you suppose that negotiation lasted, five minutes? Maybe 30 minutes so we could appear sufficiently disappointed?

How do you think that dialogue went like?

"You won't give our troops immunity? Well, gosh. I guess that means we have to pull our troops. What? Oh that's not a smile, it's a grimace of extraordinary pain. We're terribly disappointed. Really. Well gosh, look at the time, I really need to walk the dog. Later!"

I would have much rather Obama stood under a "Mission Accomplished" banner rather than "Hopey Changey" and all the other massive failures he has presided over.

If Obama instead conceded and allowed thousands of American troops to fall under Iraqi law, the GOP/Tea-Baggers would be condemning Obama for surrendering to foreign demands that would endanger our troops.

Instead, Obama has decided to protect our troops and remove the giant American teet from the mouth of the now 13 year-old Iraqi baby.

Obama is attacked for what he does & attacked for what he doesn't do, by the GOP/Tea-Baggers.

Let us know when he accomplishes something. Bush oversaw the war against Afghanistan and Iraq. Those wars both ended 8 and 9 years ago. If we are now declaring an end to 'war', Id still love to know who we are claiming we have been fighting for the last 8 and 9 years and what has occured to claim 'victory.'

Bush did a great job as CiC in fighting and ending the wars. He did a lousy job with post war ops. Obama has done nothing but follow the Bush gameplan that he and so many on the left spent 8 and 9 years bitching about. Yeah buddy...he should hang a banner...
