Thieves preying on fellow protesters(Edited)

Re: Thieves teach OWS protestors about redistribution, the hard way

An obligation of an income earning member of this society.

And when a guy holds a gun to my face demanding my wallet and my car keys, I am no less obligated to hand those over.

The difference being, of course, is, on one side, the guy with the gun has a badge and is assuring me this money he's taking is going to serve the society I live in, and on the other side, the guy with gun isn't telling that lie, he's saying it's going to serve himself.

Re: Thieves teach OWS protestors about redistribution, the hard way

Taking something that belongs to another without consent is theft.

There are those in this country who, if offered the choice, would choose NOT to volunteer money for taxes, via income, payroll, property, or sales tax. For those people, taxes are, in every since of the word, theft.

You are confusing taxation with donation. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Re: Thieves teach OWS protestors about redistribution, the hard way

Through the legal process, we have determined what exactly constitutes taxable income.

So it's no longer a case of everyone who has income contributing.

No; you are being robbed which is punishable by law. Those taxes you whine about pay the police to investigate such instances and arrest/prosecute/imprison the lawbreaking party.

The difference being, of course, is, on one side, the guy with the gun has a badge and is assuring me this money he's taking is going to serve the society I live in, and on the other side, the guy with gun isn't telling that lie, he's saying it's going to serve himself.

The difference being of course one is based upon the rule of law, where as the other is based upon breaking that law. Whether or not you agree with a law has no bearing as to its legality.

Re: Thieves teach OWS protestors about redistribution, the hard way

No we haven't. That definition is constantly changing, as shown by the numerous court decisions against tax protesters. If you're going to sit there and tell me and everyone in this thread that you don't feel the current tax code is convoluted and nebulous, well, then, I guess there just won't be enough deodorant for this conversation.

You will have a tough time navigating through reality if you view the world in an absolute context.

No I'm not. You would portray taxes as being a sort of voluntary obligation, which is a weird concept in the first place, but in the end, you HAVE to do so, because otherwise, it is, in fact, theft. If I am not happy about the things my tax dollars go to fund, and decide to withhold on my obligation, I go to jail. The only way this becomes NOT theft is if somehow, by magic, we all have the ability to choose were we live, at which point, that choice enacts a social contract for those taxes of said location.

Basically what you are saying is if we passed a law that makes theft legal, it's no longer theft.

Good job.

Do not try to redefine my premise to fit your red herring. We are a nation of laws; it is what separates us from the likes of Somalia.

So we're back to who has the bigger fists, political or literal, to take more away from someone else.

Nope! You are simply confusing basic vocabulary (purposely i might add).

Re: Thieves teach OWS protestors about redistribution, the hard way

I have a question.......I didn't even know you could buy a Mac for $5500. Are there version really this expensive and if so, why would one leave them unattended in a park?

Re: Thieves teach OWS protestors about redistribution, the hard way

What if.. There is plenty of new wealth on the trees. This is America, bro!

Tim-

Sorry man, while their is new wealth, the wealthy got I think 85% of it in the past thirty years, iirc.

There's been a number of graphs and charts posted here recently that support this.

I personally advocate tax structures that discourage the mass accumulation of wealth.

Great wealth is not something they need, its something they want.

That's what's great about America. You can bitch about redistribution typing on a computer that costs ten times more than the last one I bought.

You said that taxable income is defined by the rule of law. I would say that said definition is as clear as crude oil, and ever changing...which, of course, would no longer be a definition. To define something is to nail it down, to pin onto it it's meaning. Hard to define something that changes from one court justice to another.

It's none of your business what other people think they need, if it's gotten legally.

So we are to be a country of needs, now? The american dream is to become simply...the ability to procure one's needs to sustain life?

You might want to try a different debate tactic (such as developing a strong premise in which to defend). Equivocation is a fallacy.

What law says Obama campaign bundlers get first crack at gree energy subsidies?

Re: Thieves teach OWS protestors about redistribution, the hard way

No I'm not. You're justifying one man with a gun to my face, while invalidating another, based on what's legal or not legal.

Meaning, when theft is enforced by law, you no longer consider it theft, but a "societal obligation".

Re: Thieves teach OWS protestors about redistribution, the hard way

48% of income earning members of this society pay no Federal income taxes.

BECAUSE they don't have enough income.

Can you make a reply without the use of a fallacy?

I know, right? I hope that came with, like, free sexual favors, or something. Maybe it's gold plated?

Is that not happening?
