Its funny in a sick sort of twisted way how certain people praise the involvement of the common folk when they take on the mantle of the phony tea party and praise how waitresses and garage mechanics and cubicle bunnies need to be involved more in government when they agree with their opinions. But as soon as somebody outside of politics or academia gets involved on the other side of the aisle - all the sudden the long knives come out and their lack of "qualifications" is ripped to shreds along with personal attacks on the individual involved.
There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.... John Rogers
This is nothing but a transparent campaign ploy to pander to hispanics. The lady may be a fine singer but nobody will convince me she has a clue how the US education system works, or doesn't work as the case may be. Now BO has a new prop he can use to generate crowds for the next 12 months.
I love the smell of burning moonbat in the morning.
For example, in order to meet their needs the American education system must provide funding for these students to be separated by their classification: Hispanic, Chinese, Vietnamese, etc, at least part of the school day, to ensure they are being taught in their native language using prior experiences. The other half of the school day these students are taught in mainstream classrooms where they receive the rest of their (FRAPE), free and appropriate public education.
However, these bilingual programs have merit for gringos too. American, English speaking only students, have access to these programs as well, if their parents want them to learn a new language. The problem is that not all schools have access to these programs because of funding issues.
How much do think these programs cost, with so many people from different world backgrounds and experiences living in the USA?
The thing that bothers me the most is that another sub-population (minority) group of students who are American citizens, typically achieve at lower levels than Anglo students, and don't receive special funding for separate programs like Non-English speaking or limited English proficient (LEP) students are black-American students. IMHO Americans citizens should be very upset their education dollars go to fund non-native speaking programs, and to educate these minorities, while native speaking Americans receive little to no extra funding to support their obvious needs.
I guess it’s the American way…
Shakira.com > BiographyThe compassionate side of Shakira is most obvious in the remarkable work of her Pies Descalzos (Barefoot) Foundation, which she started at the age of 18 and has now opened its sixth school. The foundation currently provides education and nutrition to over six thousand impoverished children in Colombia and is expanding its work to other countries, including newly launched projects in Haiti and South Africa.
"Started at the age of 18" would mean she's been doing it for the last 16 years.
Typical, another wingnut so eager to paddle the Obama administration that they make assumptions they don't even bother to research.
