Bank Protesters Arrested After Trying to Cash $673-billion Check

The title is a little misleading but it is still amusing that they walked into a bank trying to cash a check that large.

Protest: Bank Protesters Arrested After Trying to Cash $673-billion Check - ktla.com
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KTLA) -- Ten protesters were arrested at a downtown Los Angeles Bank of America branch on Thursday afternoon, after a group marched inside the bank and tried to cash a $673 billion check.

The protest was organized by the Refund California campaign. "Occupy L.A." protesters, inspired by the "Occupy Wall Street" protesters in New York, also joined in, authorities said.

The protesters tried to cash an over-sized check made out to the "people of California," LAPD Lt. Paul Vernon said.

Ten protesters -- six men and four women -- were arrested after refusing to leave the bank, police said.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

I would love to see video of the incident, just to see the look on the bank teller's face.

One day last week I found myself with a $100 bill, and I needed to pay the yard man $60. I was on my lunch break, and I walk my dogs, so I put the money in my pocket and walked up the street to the nearby bank branch. I asked the teller for change, and she asked if I had an account there. I didn't, but I have used their ATM to get cash before, paying a $3.50 transaction fee. She then asked if I had ID.

I didn't, and she told me that she had to get permission. Finally another woman came out, asked the same questions, got the same replies and told me that she could not make change.

I was astonished! I spoke about what bad reputations banks had, what with the bailout and all, and left. I then crossed the street to a liquor store, where they made change for me.

Do we now live in a world where a 68-year-old woman has to have financial transactions done at a liquor store?

I called the president of the bank; he called me back, and before I could tell him what had happened, he informed me that if I ever went back into his bank he would have me arrested.

    Is that what banks do?

I think the check is funny. The failure to leave the bank would get a priest arrested. The banks, generally speaking, are a bunch of shysters. Scumbags, true to form. Big enough to buy a few politicians, quite a few. Managed to get themselves bailed out and didn't have to post bail. Probably real patriots at the right price.

This is publicity stunt that worked and worked well. It's global news now. Tell me a cheaper way to get global publicity on pretty much all major outlets worldwide than getting arrested for trespassing. The 99% movement is using the playbook from the very successful civil rights and anti-Vietnam war movements.
