Well, this should be interesting....

:popcorn2:

popcorn for all!!

Great! So they'll damage ordinary people with money in IRA's, mutual and pension funds too. Terrific. :doh (If it's a real threat).

It won't stop the exchange, just slow down online info until the IT guys can put it back up...probably in less than 24 hours (they have backups you know). And a smart hacker would say nothing until after the fact.

There are some many folks posing as anonymous now, it's not even funny. In some ways, I support some of the things they have done, in the same vein I support some of the things wikileaks has done. But in others, it just smacks of angst ridden kids living in the parents basements, me vs the world sorta thing. If Anonymous really wanted to affect change in the way american industry operates, their job is actually MUCH simpler. If I were an anonymous hacker, I'd keep on going after the emails, like they did with Bank of America. THAT rallies people to their cause, if they have one...

Investors are an easily spooked lot. So it's not the threat of losing data, but just the threat of an attack in general that can cause a panicky sell off, and yes, a smart hacker wouldn't say anything before doing it. But then, as I just demonstrated, they don't actually have to wipe the market out on the internet in order to harm Wall St.

Says a lot about Wall Street, don't it?

Yes, it does. The market goes up and down over whispers, innuendo and gossip. What a shame they have so much control over the financial health of our country. Henny Pennys for the most part.

Not really Wall Street but humans in general, are a panicky bunch.
Hell when the recession was happening, most people told me we were going back to the dark ages.

SWEET! Does that mean I can walk around with a broadsword? And chainmail? I think I'd be dead sexy in some ren fair garb...

The target site for this campaign is listed as NYSE.com. As a commenter on Reddit put it: “TONIGHT: NYSE website goes down for several hours after DDoS attack by hacktivist group Anonymous. One NYSE trader had this to say: “We’ve got a website?”

A quick glance at NYSE’s traffic stats is underwhelming to say the least. The website is ranked by Alexa as the 26,155th most visited site in the world. That puts it directly ahead of macromates.com, a site advertising a text editor for programming code. The 4 sites above it? A Russian gaming site, a men’s clothing company, a Geocities-esque online entertainment site and a Netherlands-based soccer network. Not exactly esteemed company. Quantcast, another web analytics service, estimates the monthly traffic to be somewhere between 250,000 and 350,000 visitors worldwide. Google gets that many hits in about 10 minutes.

This whole thing is LoL.

:rofl

I got as far as the bolded part, then was laughing too hard to read the rest! Comedy gold!

It had honestly never occurred to me that the NYSE would even have a website.

Well here it is 4:35 EST and guess what...no attack. Can you say Cry Wolf!

Internet vandals should be broken on the wheel and then burned alive
