They couldn't leave DURING the contract

Under the law, a party to a contract can abrogate the contract and refuse to perform, and there were no criminal penalties. This was not true of indentured servants, which is why indentured servitude, as it was practiced in conlonial america, was a form of slavery

But thanks for once again demonstrating how ignorant the right is when it comes to slavery

Did that law exist in the 1700's?

no one forced them into the contract.

but thanks again for demonstrating how far the left will go to deny reality.

funny how indentured servitude is only considered a form of slavery when doing so supports the left's position.

I don't think there ever was a time when all blacks were slaves.

totally dishonest statement, as I have always learned that these two systems were very similar.

Contract law dates back much further than the 1700's

Many were children who were forced into indentured servitude. Once again, the right believes in fiction

It wasn't just a contract. Contracts are enforced in civil court. Indentured servitude was enforced by criminal courts.

but thanks again for demonstrating how far the right will go to deny reality by repeating slogans

following the logic of some in this thread, it should be okee dokee for German & Austrian politicians to wave the Nazi flag above their homes and govt. offices.

why? becuase Nazism simply represented the culmination of centuries of German nationalism.
