What about the rights of innocent people? This man's existence was based on trying to violate those rights. Taking the guy out was the right thing to do.

If you violate the rights of others, you are breaking the law and indicted.

Al Awlaki was breaking the law and violated the rights of others. News has surfaced saying he was actively seeking WMD's to use in his murder of innocent people. It was for the best that he was killed so that the lives of others may not be taken by a murderous man. The Obama administration made the right call on this.

Unless, you're operating as an international terrorist, whose hell bent on destroying the country. In that case, you get a side-winder in your ass, while you're eating supper.

I, speaking only for myself, can't feel good about the extra-judicial killing of an American citizen. Clearly, if he was in fact a terrorist leader (which seems very likeky) planning attacks against the US, he's an enemy of the state. We should all hesitate to quickly endorse the targeted assassination of citizens however, and I only hope that this was done because no options for his capture and trial were possible.

That should be fairly obvious, since he was holed up in Yemen. It's not like the guy was living in Ottumwa, Iowa and I think that's a huge point that some folks are missing.

I have zero doubt that capture was simply not a viable option. We captured KSM, did we not?

The day he became a terrorist and turned against America and moved out of the states he stopped being a citizen. If he didn't want to be treated like any other terrorist then he should have went back to the US and surrendered.

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"
