Hugo Chavez in hospital 'for kidney failure'

My prayers are with Chavez...

Mine aren't

Mine aren't

Ehh fair enough... I guess when the US media has beef with someone because he nationalized a few companies that makes everyone hate they guy..

I see lots of reports of him denying the reports of kidney failure... and not to many on him having kidney failure. I'll reserve skepticism most media don't to a particularly good job with Chavez.

I dont understand why one would want a democratically very popular leader in his country that poses no foreign threat to us to die...

Your actually wrong dem...he is not popular at all in his country...he hates the United States...he has sided with Iran against us...he tried to get oil priced pushed far higher by opec...he is not our friend..
His country is oil rich and theres no milk on store shelves....you need to research chavez a bit more...he is not a good person

I would say in a recent poll (and polls are not always the most accurate) that he still has above the majority of the population on his side...
Venezuela: Chavez Popularity Unchanged According To Poll
" President Hugo Chavez's approval ratings remain in the 50 percent range,"
But i guess we will just have to see in this upcoming election...

he hates the United States...
He doesn't "hate the US". He hates our economic policy in Latin America and our dominance in economic sectors of Latin America, and our foreign policy in the US.
Hating the US is a broad term he doesnt hate the American people...

he has sided with Iran against us...
What do you mean?
That he trades with them?

he tried to get oil priced pushed far higher by opec...
Sense he wanted to raise oil prices we hate him??
That is a valid reason to wish for someones death and hate them?

he is not our friend..
I never said he was our friend....
Just saying why dont people look at it at a objectionable perspective.

I'll be sure to tell that to the Venezuelan gentleman who I spent the last three weeks working with. He and his family moved to the states five years ago when Chavez shut down his father's business, and then shut down the business he was working for.

Didn't have time to discuss it at length, but he thinks that Chavez will be gone in the not too distant future -- not having anything to do with his health problems.

Wishing for someone to die, no matter who they are, only hurts you. It's bad karma.

Huh... <checks to make sure this isn't a RIP thread>

Oh .. was that callous and unfeeling towards another human being too much? Good 'cuz that's what I was going for...

Oh noe, hes strategically planning his economy to help the wretched poor, what a bastard!

No really why shouldnt foreign countries design their economies according to our interests?

I can't scare up too much sympathy for a wanna-be dictator.
In what sense is he a dictator?

BTW I love these chavez threads, people end up stirring a whole bunch of crap until they actually are confronted with some sources.

This is another 'castro is dead' tabloid fop up.

S'okay. As good excuse as any to crack open a beer whether it's an accurate story or not.

And what business was this?

rule by decree.

You do realize its pretty much exactly like an executive order. Also Chavez is not the only and first Venezuelan President to rule by decree. Carlos Andrez Perez used in in 1974. In 1984 Jaime Lusinchi used it. And Ramon Jose Velasquez used in in 93.... Also its in the Venezuelan consitution and has been there sense 1961... Also the national assembly has to pass the Presidents request to rule by decree..

I don't recall what the father's business was. The guy I was working with worked for a TV station that Chavez shut down because they weren't quite pro-Chavez enough.
