I don't think "insanity" should get you out of going to trial.... it can, however, be used as a defense or mitigating factor.
I think we all know he's guilty ( well, all minus 1 or 2 people in the nation).. but a trial still needs to happen to give him his day in court.
( i'm not a fan of locking a person away for life in a mental ward without a trial)
it's doubtful he'll fry...he should, but he probably won't.
personally, I feel that if you don't know that mass murder is wrong... you really need to exit the gene pool for good.

IMO, same deal as with the violent mentally ill. We can't execute until we know more than just what they did.
