Read the article, they chased the guy into his home broke down his door with his wife and 4kids and two other young teens he was trying to protect....they hit him with a pipe and pulled a gun on him

Classic reason to allow gun ownership and the right to put holes into anyone breaking the sanctity of your home to do you harm.
This guy and his family were lucky...most times the police just cant get there fast enough

bolded: this is why I have guns in my home

I also have a concealed carry permit. they would've chased me just long enough for me to pop the snap on my shoulder holster.

Carry permit or not...you still have to be right and you cant jump the gun so to speak...you have to use common sense...

This is what disturbs me most:
Patty-Pat Kozlowski, president of the Port Richmond on Patrol and Civic Association, said that police told her that the attack on LaVelle stemmed from the incident at Stokely Playground, Indiana Avenue and Thompson Street, a few blocks from LaVelle's house.

She heard that an African-American "kid got knocked off his bike or fell off" and white kids were laughing at him. The group of African-Americans and Hispanics came back for retaliation, Kozlowski believes.

If that account is true, we basically have an angry group of grown men tracking down white people (specifically) because some white kids laughed at a black kid falling/being pushed off his bike.

People often forget a simply truth. If everyone is armed, no one has the upper hand. So if you believe that more guns in our society will stop violence, I'd suggest you think about the possibly that all of those men who stormed into the house could possibly be armed as well. What turned out to be a few bruises and bumps could have been a mass murder instead if more guns were involved.

Yep. These types of situations are rare, but in the event that they occur, having a gun would be ideal to protect your family. My town outlawed guns until recently but that didn't stop my family from owning two in the event of a break in or something similar.

would that make this a hate crime?

would that make this a hate crime?

Rarely works that way oscar...white on black is the hate crimes...it doesnt work the other way around.

Not sure on that. But it clearly displays a distorted sense of retaliation on the part of that group of men. What situation is being bred in which grown ass men feel it's appropriate to track down and use weapons against somebody because a kid got laughed at?

Well this article says that the kid was pushed off the bike by a white kid, not just laughed at. That said, the response still isn't rational - I suspect gangs, they tend to overreact a lot. It's not that much of a mystery, I don't think.

Tess this isnt a new phenomena it happens in inner cities all the time..many times much smaller groups but the same mentality

So you'd prefer only the bad guys have guns? Because they're going to have them no matter what.

Yep, it's happening in Chicago too - not this exact scenario, but similarly ridiculous mob actions. I suspect it's a combination of regular gang actions, more bored/angry unemployed people on the streets and just the rise in general economic and racial tensions in the country. It's not a good situation.

typical of people with low intellect. they tend to react to any perceived slight with violence.

I'm not saying it's new, but it being common place does not mean it's "normal". That kind of reactionary behavior is being bred within these groups. Instead of shrugging and saying, "it happens all the time," perhaps we should be addressing the why.

I used to work in an area of Dallas referred to as "Red Bird". It's southern Dallas, just southwest of one of the scariest areas of the city, and it is largely populated by african americans. I would drive an extra 10 miles out of my way at lunch if I wanted to sit down somewhere to eat because I would often get stared at and jeered at by the area residents at the stores and restaurants near the office. I had one guy tell me to turn around and get back in my car because, "we don't want no white bitches in here". I once asked the cashier at an area store how her day was and the response I received was "white bitch, what would YOU know about my life?"

So I'm well aware that the hostility exists. But I'm not so sure we have to simply accept it because it exists.

I didnt say never adam...I said rarely

You contradicted yourself. You said rarely, but you also said, "white on black is the hate crimes...it doesnt work the other way around."

Tettsuo if you read the article...they broke down the mans door..hit him with a pipe, beat him in the face and a gun was pulled on him being aimed and he grabbed the guys arm and kept it from him...just then the police sirens were heard and the mob ran...if the police didnt get there...how was this guy going to keep the mob off him and the kids in the house and his wife...be reasonable ...people have the RIGHT to protect their home...they have a RIGHT to be and feel safe in their homes.
