Last Ford Crown Victoria rolls of the assembly line

Why would they do that?

They might do that because protectionist measures are almost always countered with other protectionist measures, so the net effect is that they generally cancel each other out and drive up prices.

How so? They would pay lower taxes too and have to comply with less regulations. And the foreign car manufacturers would still have the advantage over American manufacturers as the foreign don't have union labor. Sorry, but I just don't see it.

Many stocks, including GMs common stock, don't pay dividends. Meanwhile, with the government owning 30% of the company, you probably have more say in it than you would if you owned a couple hundred shares personally.

I can tell how much say I have with the government. They actually have not adopted my positions on illegal immigration, simplified taxes, less regulations, no government sponsored healthcare insurance, and the list goes on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on. I'm being very generous by stopping there. I don't think one posting could hold enough letters to adequately cover it. Government Motors doesn't pay dividends? How about that? Maybe that is why I own Heinz stock. I get a dividend check every month. You can have Government Motors. It will be a cold day in Hell when I purchase a car from them.

My Dad was a Ford man and never drove anything else other than a Mercury & Lincoln. My first car was a 54 ford and it didn't exactly have get lines like the 55, and 57.

My favorite car when cars were really cool was the 1959 Dodge D-500 Custom Royal Lancer it could out run just about every other car on the road and it looked cool as it could be. I have always been a Dodge man myself.

I did for a short time own a 1995 Crown Vic former police car. I did like the classic lines so, I gave to my grandson.

I prefer rear wheel drive because I know it acts in all weather conditions and I can work on them. The new front and all wheel drive cars are a bitch to work on without a degree in electrical, mechanical, and structural engineering.

I would love to have one of these to drive again. 59 Dodge D-500 Custom Royal Lancer.

Yes it is a size larger than that fiberglass coffin. My boss owns one and I've refused to ride in it TWICE, because it's too small to be truly SAFE so far as I'm concerned. Those micro-cars are just patently unsafe in my mind. You get hit by a box truck or anything larger and they'll be wiping you up with a spatula.
So in other words you would drive a substandard car, if the superior car was from a foreign manufacturer

Did you look at the Chevy HHR, which is what I drive?

drove an friend's rental HHR recently, though, and it drives quite well.

I love mine. Probably my favorite car that I've ever owned. The gas mileage is good (especially on the highway) and it's got abotu 90% of the storage space my Jeep Grand Cherokee did.

I loved the 1957 Dodge Coronet and the DeSoto ...but one of the sharpest cars ever was the 1957 studebaker Golden Hawk...and the Silver Hawk was right up there with it

The 1955 model was pretty sharp.

I would imagine that within a decade or two, the police will be driving Mini Coopers.

Known as the Ginnie gun boat.

Too bad. That was one of the cars when I was little that I really wanted. Now I'll never be able to get new. :'(

Can you put your arm on the window sill and put it straight up?

The windows look really small onthe HHR, which is what stopped me from buying it.

The HHR is a size larger then the Mini

The Cobalt SS would be the closest competitor to the Mini in the GM lineup (past of course). Other options would have been the VW GTI, Mazda Mazdaspeed 3, Subaru Impreza WRX and a few others. Next year Ford is coming out with the Focus STi which should be good

Did you see the price of the new Golf GTI? I think it is around 40K.

40K for a Golf. Our local dealer has had one since March in red. Nobody will touch it and it is usually the first car sold off the lot.

They just priced themselves out of the market.

Go into a GM dealership and try to get a discount based onthe fact that you are a shareholder.

I bet they laugh you off the lot and in case you didn't know, they do offer discounts like that to employees and shareholders and I am sure other catagories.
