Last Ford Crown Victoria rolls of the assembly line

You mised the second part of my statement. I buy American from American companies. I don't need or want a car manufactured by a foreign company. I like all profits to stay in the U.S. I realize that many constantly bitch about American companies, but then promote foreign ones. Not me.

Are you guys not reading everything I say? I included the following "or money going to foreign countries when car is mannufactured in U.S."

Would you buy a Ford Fusion then?

How about American cars primarily engineered by foreigners but assembled in the US using a large number of foreign parts?

Heck I just noticed the Ford Crown Victoria is not even built in the US, but in Canada.

Lightbulbs are serious energy use. They are a source of that pollution.
Expensive lightbulbs and vehicles inconvenience me too, you know. So do higher energy prices.
Did you know that cars can be run on something other than fossil fuels?

Yes, I do know. That is why I only said those powered by gasoline. I do need to add one more and that is any car that takes a charge from electricity. But, if you want to use a car that uses solar or wind or nuclear power, fine. As for lightbulbs, I will stack the use of energy using airconditioning and furnaces anytime versus the usage of lightbulbs. Besides, we still use lightbulbs. We would burn less energy and use less co2 if we banned lightbulbs. We can add them to the list if you would like.

Nope.

If given the chance, no.

Unfortunately, not a lot made in the U.S. anymore. I would suggest legislation to change that.

That's fine. I would suggest legislation to try to change that too; however, I have never bought one.

My my - what ever will the cops use for cop cars now?

I think what you mean is that you buy Ford, since you apparently wouldn't by a Chrysler or GM -- even though you as a taxpayer are part owner of the latter.

Oh goody! I cannot wait for my dividend checks to start arriving. When will that be?

The Crown Vic has been built in Canada for many years.

How would that fit in with your buy American idea?

I am not knocking it, I am just curious.

Speaking of that, back in 1987 the LAPD was using Fords.

They had to get rid of them because they kept having to replace the shocks and they didn't have the budget for that, so they went back to the Chevy.

I don't know what cops will use now. There has to be enough room insdie to install the protections.

Her in Mexico they have used Nissan Sentras, Nissan Tsurus, which are the Sentra from 1991, and a few mid sized pick ups.

The VWs all fell apart and so did the Nissans.

No good answer for heavy use anymore.

I do not demand that American companies manufacture everything in the U.S. I am for freedom. Where I also differ with liberals is that I want to lower taxes and regulations in order to keep as many companies and their jobs in the U.S. as possible. In the case of the Ford versus the Camry, at least the profits come here. Again, I have not purchased a Crown Vic.

You would suggest legislation preventing or limiting manufacture outside of the US, but you are for freedom?

Sounds fairly statist to me

You know how you can triple the resale value of a used Hyundai?

Include a full tank of gasoline.

of course that opinion is based on old facts

hyundai is producing some of the best cars in the world now in terms of reliability, technology and within the last few years style. The new Sonata, Elantra are fantastically styled cars, the Genisis coupe and especially sedan are well styled and the sedan very well priced for the content.

Heck if we want to go to old sterotypes

Your right..but it's different today for now anyway:) Chevy and GMC is junk.

however, part of me does wish they could make them look like they used to. finding a car that doesn't look like every other piece of plastic on the road with a grey plastic interior can be a real challenge.

when i bought my most recent car, i wanted something quick, good on fuel for commuting, and distinctively stylish so that i would want to drive it every day. in my price range, that left the mini cooper s and not much else. seems like there should be a lot of cars built for that niche, but there just aren't.

Did you look at the Chevy HHR, which is what I drive?

The HHR is a size larger then the Mini

The Cobalt SS would be the closest competitor to the Mini in the GM lineup (past of course). Other options would have been the VW GTI, Mazda Mazdaspeed 3, Subaru Impreza WRX and a few others. Next year Ford is coming out with the Focus STi which should be good

Not at all. I never said that I would suggest legislation to prevent or limit manufacture outside of the U.S. What I would do is offer legislation to provide incentives for companies to stay in or return to the U.S. Those incentives have to do with policies regarding taxation and regulation.

Yes it is a size larger than that fiberglass coffin. My boss owns one and I've refused to ride in it TWICE, because it's too small to be truly SAFE so far as I'm concerned. Those micro-cars are just patently unsafe in my mind. You get hit by a box truck or anything larger and they'll be wiping you up with a spatula.

The only car you mentioned that I would willingly drive is the Cobalt. When I bought my HHR three years ago I spent two months looking at vehicles before I made the choice. There wasn't a single FOREIGN car on the list of vehicles I looked at.

Last Ford Crown Victoria rolls off the line in Ontario; factory closes | Detroit Free Press | freep.com

This stalwart of the American car industry is now history. Many thousands will be available in the fleet aftermarket for years to come, but the old girl is finally out of production.

Last of the large rear wheel drive sedans, the Crown Vic suffered imo from a lack of interest by Ford to freshen up the vehicle, condemning it to heavy duty fleet use by virtue of its low cost to own. It sported an ultra reliable engine and transmission, at the expense of so so driving dynamics, dull as dishwater interior and poor fuel economy. Unless drove nothing but flat out runs on the highway or you had very little to spend on a used car, the Vic was a poor choice for transportation.

However, some people bemoan the loss of the Vic. Are you one of those? Did you like the Vic? Why or why not?

They will have to tell the folks at the doughnut shops to be on the lookout for another type of patrol car.

Oh goody! I cannot wait for my dividend checks to start arriving. When will that be?

You're already getting dividends, in the sense that over a million Americans are still employed and GM is still building cars.

Great. And then Japan, Germany, and S. Korea offer incentives to their car manufacturers to quit producing in the U.S....

I understand they are still building cars, but I do not have any part of the ownership.

I disagree. The government still owns about 30% of the company, and the government belongs to us.

Great! When do the dividend checks begin from the government? And, I would really like to talk to the directors at the Board of Directors meeting. Who do I contact for that?

Many stocks, including GMs common stock, don't pay dividends. Meanwhile, with the government owning 30% of the company, you probably have more say in it than you would if you owned a couple hundred shares personally.
