Officials chase unconfirmed al-Qaida bomb threat - Yahoo! News

Law enforcement officials were pursuing three people who may be traveling to the U.S. or who have recently entered the country, based on the detailed information received by the U.S. intelligence community late Wednesday, officials said. The intelligence suggested that al-Qaida planned to car bomb one of the two cities that were hit 10 years ago.

Vice President Joe Biden said Friday that there was no confirmation that anyone had traveled into the U.S. for such a plot although the tip came from a credible source. "There's no certitude," he said.

"The thing we are all most worried about is what they call a 'lone ranger,' a lone actor, not some extremely complicated plan like it took to take down the World Trade towers," said Biden, who appeared on the trio of network morning TV shows Friday.

I hope everybody attending these memorials remains safe over the weekend. If this threat proves to be legitimate I also hope we catch all involved parties before anything comes to fruition.

I was just reading an article about the very same Tess.
And I was thinking, it must be some pretty stupid individuals to plan an attack on the 10th anniversary date of the towers attack. Our country has been watching, been on the look-out, and we are most likely watching out more right now, than ever before.
Are people that idiotic, that they think they could possibly get away with trying anything??...well, wait...I guess I already know the answer to that.
But I would think...hope anyway, that we are more prepared in case anything even looks close to a threat. But I do hope everyone keeps a heads up.
Washington D.C. and New York seem to be the targets.

Honestly, I fear that if they try something in New York on 9/11 that we may never try them in court. If a New Yorker observes one of these men in the act of setting up a bomb I can imagine the anger and mourning would propel them to act without much forethought. We might have some prematurely dead terrorist jerkoffs on our hands.

That's a pretty dumb thing. No smart terrorist will ever attack in such an anniversary, with so much security crawling all over the place. Maybe after a few weeks when things cool down, then attack when everybody's relieved and celebrating that they've avoided another terrorist plot, then shock them and divide the nation again.

In reality, we get threats daily. People are just more on edge about it because it is 9/11. Will it stop me from going into DC on Sunday? No. Will it make my parents a bit more nervous? Yes.

Al-Quaida is all about anniversaries. They love symbolism like that. Such a wonderful breed of dog, those al-Quaidas.

More fear mongering. Left or right, the people in power love to keep people fearful

I mentioned this elsewhere. today I found the clip I was recalling. Cue Moe.

The threat is very credible because 3 ringleaders have been identified, but not yet apprehended, and 3 trucks are missing.

Okay, so maybe I head down after the service they are having then.

"smart terrorist" is an oxymoron.

A day where only 3 ringleaders are id'd but not apprehended, and only 3 trucks missing sounds like a slow day

It does seem like a stupid thing to do to attack on the 10th anniversary of such a large attack, but if they were to succeed in an attack, they would probably consider it a huge victory. It would be like giving us a big middle finger and it would definitely hurt us.

The problem is actually pulling it off with the level of security about this weekend due to the anniversary and the amount of people who are going to be nervous and paying particular attention on Sunday for suspicious behavior. It certainly would not be easy to pull off a successful attack this Sunday.

You know what I'll be doing on Sept 11, 2011?

About the same thing I did on Sept 10, 2001. Because **** Al-Qaeda, that's why. I'm going to be teaching a total stranger how to fly an airplane. And I'm going to do it again on Sept 12. As a nation, fear drove us insane. I'm putting my ****ing foot down. Al-Qaeda is the rookie quarterback who managed to throw one perfect touchdown pass late in the 4th quarter, and now everyone thinks he's some ****ing superman. **** Al-Qaeda, Al-Qaeda is a fourth-round pickup to be a third string QB not even worth the league minimum salary. I'm not afraid of these idiots, people try to kill me damn near on a daily basis.

**** Al-Qaeda, they were never worth one invasion, let alone two. Our response to Sept 11 should have been:
1) Reenforce cockpit doors
2) Hire more psychological profiling guys at the airport like Israel does
3) Put a CIA black squad together and say "Find these guys"
4) When found, send predator drones, because Al-Qaeda isn't worthy of the attention of the baddest military force this planet has ever seen. Send a machine to do it, because it's the sort of mundane task you use a machine for, because our real pilots can't be bothered to go hunt down what amounts to a middle-eastern version of gangbangers.

I'm done with it. Cowboy up, America.

Statistically speaking, several hundred people will die on 9/11 from unnatural causes. 40 people will be murdered. 90 people will die in a car crash. 13 will have fatal accidents at work. 54 people will fall to their death. 6 people will drown. 80 will commit suicide.

Terrorism is a nonexistent risk compared the ones you face everyday without worry. Its only real power to harm is when it frightens you into doing something stupid.

Security state mobilizes the state press to evoke fear and caution into the populace around a non-existent threat in order to perpetuate doctrine of endless war through nationalism and fear. More at 10.

You should have ended it with "More at 10, on Russia Today".

I hoe they aren't legitimate.

having a legitimate threat means that it's more likely something tragic could happen.

Things to consider are: Does it really matter if it's NY and Washington? I agree it would be a pretty stupid thing to try given the heightened security and response - perhaps they will attempt to use NY and D.C. as a diversion and strike somewhere else. They already tried in LA, the Space Needle in Seattle, other places and always foiled. I think we have to be very diligent everywhere and in all large cities IF this is credible which it seems like it is.

I also agree these terrorists are all about symbolism - I was watching some talking head last night saying even though the NY car bomb plot a few years ago didn't work and the guy was caught, it was deemed a success at getting as far as he did.

To be honest I don't even care anymore. There have been so many power abuses and erosions of trust since 2001 that anytime the government says there is a threat I am not bothered.

If I'm going to die, then I'm going to die. I would rather die free than have to deal with hysteria, removal of rights, and security measures that don't seem to be working anyway.

I think they just issued the warnings in order to justify their intrusive security measures and look like they were doing something
