That was a little different, given that Giffords is/was a politician. Sorta suggests the possibility of a poltiical motive.

Somehow it's always different but as far as we really know, the Giffords shooter is just a nut case and not political and this case could be just as politically motivated.

No, you have the blinders on right now. Politicizing the events is wrong, but a random and inexplicable act of violence vs the attempted assasination of a politician are not comparable on 'political motivation' as far as we know from this story so far.
