    "No Containment" of Texas Wildfires

"No containment" of Texas wildfire - CBS News

"We've been in a defensive mode for a couple of days now, and really all you can do is get people out of the way, protect homes where you can, and make sure our firefighters are safe," Boggus told anchor Erica Hill. "But today, the winds have died down so we can probably be much more aggressive, and we hopefully can get some containment on all these fires in the Austin area."
Family and friends in CenTex are all waiting with baited breath for evacuation orders. The situation is so severe that most CenTex counties were banning the use of any grills over the Labor Day weekend. One horse rescue facility in Bastrop was taking in horses that had to be evacuated, only to find out last night that they are now in the evacuation zone. Based on the last update I received, they're now looking for transport for a minimum of 43 horses, as well as volunteer facilities to house them. A non-profit animal rescue in Austin drove out to Bastrop over the weekend and collected all of their shelter animals and are now pleading for foster home volunteers to help out with placement. And with over 500 families now without homes, this is shaping up to be a real nightmare for CenTex.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the families dealing with this situation.

I have family in the Austin area and I am seeing a lot of pics and posts on Facebook from them about the fires. They aren't in the danger zone yet, and hopefully they never will be, but it is really bad and seems to show no signs of getting better any time soon. They need a nice drenching rainstorm right now -- a tropical storm would be nice, but they keep hitting further east...

Seconded. Sounds like an awful situation; hope that they get some rain.

Unfortunately we're being rain-blocked left and right. The last storm in the gulf veered off towards Louisiana and Mississippi and barely gave Houston a little drizzle. Nothing coming in from the north is hitting much further south than Hillsboro, which is about 150 miles north of the Austin area. Forecasters seem pretty confident that rain is a long way out.

My daughter's soccer team made the final of the Austin Labor Day tournament, but it was cancelled due to the fires and evacuations. We got out of town and headed home.

Saturday's 50+ mph winds made for a bad scenario. I've never seen Austin look that bone dry.

Congrats on your daughter's achievement. I'm sorry she wasn't able to play, but I'm glad y'all got out of town okay.
