What I would say is that the first book was about Obama's formative years, and he was talking about coming to grips with his half-black/half-white lineage, when he had essentially no contact with his birth father. It was a coming of age stoy -- not a recitation of his current beliefs.
The second quote is, typically, taken out of context. He was saying that he would support Muslims if there was a witch hunt against them, such as we saw against Japanese Americans during WWII.

The books were written while nObama was an adult and he must of been proud to make these statements or else he would of omitted them from his books.
