Thread: Libya probes China-Kadhafi arms deal

Libya's new government said Monday it was investigating documents that appear to detail secret Chinese efforts to sell a vast quantity of weapons to Moamer Kadhafi's regime despite UN sanctions.

Too early to know if this is true, at this point. However, if it is, no one should be surprised by it. China is best served by having dictators in charge of the natural resources they so desparately want to rape from the African continent. That is why they support the likes of Khartoum, Harare and now, apparently, the former Tyrant of Tripoli.

I am outraged! Don't the chinks know only us civilized white folk are allowed to rape the land of those jungle-monkeys and ragheads!

The PRC would have vetoed the UN resolution if they wanted Gaddafi to stay in power. The most likely scenario is that Libyans tried to buy the weapons but the deal didn't go through. China could hardly expect the weapons to remain secret once they were in use and the diplomatic consequences if they supplied weapons that shot down UN aircraft would have been a disaster. Libyan oil only made up 3% of Chinese imports in the first place. There simply isn't any solidl reason for the PRC to take such a risk.

As if an arms embargo has ever stopped the U.S. from backing the people it wants to back. There is no defense of anyone here. I am merely attacking the hypocrisy of you going after China on this and acting like somehow it is not something done by the West as well. China has sent weapons to Egypt, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan as well. All of those countries also receive weapons from the United States.
