Interesting. I think I need more information on the $50 billion. By that measure, the funding rate into future legacy costs suggests that the Post Office has been wildly profitable over the past decade or so. Right now that's sending serious analytical red flags up.

what is killing the post office is a combination of

1) changing business climate coupled with a no layoff contract clause with both the APWU and the NALC

2) the requirement of prefunding future pensions

3) a work force that has tons of people on Limited duty and light duty and when congress overruled the Sutton and Williams-Toyota cases, it means the USPS has to "accommodate" thousands upon thousands of workers-iet giving them often unproductive or underproductive assignments

Although some of this may be true there are other considerations. The gov't is supposed to serve us. Would you rather give the Military/Industrial/Corporate network more than its current $700+ billion or save the PO and its many thousands of jobs at a paltry $10 billion and the real value we get for the money. 44 cents mails a letter anywhere, and it gets there. I'm a real fan of the PO and know it is a genuine asset to the people. We saved the auto industry and we should save the PO. It's a no-brainer.

Oye, you're back with more "I'll take this little esoteric point that really in the long run DOESN'T MATTER and try to act like I know more then ANYONE here, and I'll mock them because, I, OC, create my own arguments that cannot be defeated!"


The point OC, when I say "Run like a business", covers many many aspects, and one of those is a mind towards cost effectiveness of how the entity, regardless of WHAT IT IS, compensates employees in relation to it's profit/funding source/sales etc... etc... So while I didn't go into serious detail, and thus you can play the usual OC game of Gotcha waht about this eh!!!!
