Nice reachback. Interesting that Gibson was not charged (so far).

Use of raw materials like wood is grandfathered? wow, talk about old money.

I think I'd prefer everyone be regulated, and have nobody grandfathered in.

I believe, not 100% here, that if they did that, they would be confiscating guitars they made in the 70s. Right now, those people get a pass. I believe that is how it would work if everyone was regulated.

My impression was that Gibson gets special treatment on the use of certain raw materials that other companies do not have. Like if some law was passed to ban the use of coal in power plants, and company X is given a waiver (grandfathered in) to use coal.

All guitar companies work under the same grandfathered treatment, yet only Gibson has been raided.... twice.
I think if Thomas Jefferson were looking down, the author of the Bill of Rights, on whats being proposed here, hed agree with it. He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute. - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.

wasn't the issue that gibson was importing wood under the wrong description?
it was receiving blanks - which were not importable - while referencing them as fretboard veneers - which were importable
we are negotiating about dividing a pizza and in the meantime israel is eating it

I really couldn't tell you because both raids... the one 3 years ago and the one last year have little to no information available since the government claims this is still an on going investigation.

Re: Is your guitar DOJ approved?

While I'm sure there's all sorts of illegal things going on all the time, this has nothing to do with Gibson. If the countries this wood is being imported from decide to fake out the law, claim the wood is something different and in good faith, companies around the world buy it, that's not their fault. Yet, we don't even know if that's the case here... and we also don't have an explanation from the government as to why after almost 4 years since the first raid, charges have not been issued against Gibson or why Gibson was targeted twice and others were not.

This issue is not about illegal logging, it's about an abuse of governmental power, authority and possibly a 6th amendment issue.

if it were not about illegal logging, there would be nothing to investigate
so, of course it is about illegal logging. and whether gibson is a party to it - knowingly

there has been no abuse of governmental authority

and thus no need for a speedy trial, since no one has been arrested

but tell me what i got wrong; i'm listening
