Since '06 we haven't even had elections, just 'referendums' on the failed policies of each party on a biannual basis.

No. The question is better and more fairly framed to take in all the factors determining his success or failure. Unless of course you simply want to play partisan games for narrow ideological purposes then to hell with all the other factors and full speed ahead with the Inquisition.

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.... John Rogers

Just because somebody isn't too psyched about Obama doesn't mean they would ever vote for one of these total nuts the GOP is putting forward... For example, a lot of people are mad at him for caving to the GOP Tea Party over whether or not the rich ought to have to chip in to help reduce the deficits. That doesn't mean they're like going to go out and vote for Bachmann.

Perry will project, the following... statesman and the politician/candidate.

A solidly economical president which will bring back jobs

Promote strong defense/Promote healthy international relationships

Encourage, persuade by argument in Congress...another thing, Perry loves guns

I think it's funny that most liberals and partisan Democrats are rationalizing this with "the GOP is crazy and Obama will win because there isn't a R in front of his name."

I'm just not sure that things are at an "anything but Obama" level yet. I believe he has a chance even if the economy is stagnant. If it worsens then I agree that it won't take an overwhelming candidate to beat Obama. I'm not impressed with the GOP field so far though. Obama has some explaining to do. I don't think that things are so bad that the one with the most charisma won't win the election. The media age we are in makes that the number one factor, unfortunately.

Go ahead, nominate Ms. "I'll have gas prices under $2.00 on Elvis's birthday!"

Charisma doesn't pay the bills. His numbers are faltering in the middle... the critical ground.

They are faltering. But if the GOP nominates someone who doesn't have a strong fiscal background and policy to offer, I think Obama is savvy enough to make them look foolish, if they don't do that all on their own. This is my bias probably coming through, and I am not overly happy with Obama, but I honestly don't think what the GOP is preaching is the solution either.

I'd like to see all of this "class warfare" discussion scuttled and hear some ideas about tariffs so American companies can be competitive again.

Perry will not tailor his platform to the highest polling questionnaire responses.

Basically, its gonna be something more or less like this...

This is what I believe, I think it's good for our country and if you don't like it, feel free to vote for someone else... like Obama
