"Monterrey (Spanish pronunciation: [monteˈrei] ( listen)), is the capital city of the northeastern Mexican state of Nuevo León.[1] The city is anchor to the third-largest metropolitan area in Mexico[2][3] and is the ninth-largest city in Mexico. Monterrey serves as a commercial center in the north of the country and is the base of many significant international corporations.[4] Until recently, the city had long been regarded as the safest in Mexico and one of the safest in Latin America.[4] Furthermore Monterrey is Mexico's second richest city, and the worlds 63rd richest, with an economy that had a 2008 GDP of USD $102 billion.[5] Monterrey is one of Mexico's most developed cities with the highest per capita income in the nation and is regarded as a highly developed city"

Yeah, the overall tone of this thread is a little puzzling. The murder/tragedy did not happen in some remote corner of Mexico. It was a popular casino in Monterrey. Used to love going down to the Yucatan for getaways. Currently think it would qualify as "not the best idea" going anywhere in that country at this time.

I am more concerned about the hurricane. The Canadian boarder isn't a problem. There are some Americans running across it for free healthcare though.

They wouldn't. This was not a random terrorist act. It most likely had something to do with the casino not dealing with the cartel that committed the act, or perhaps with them dealing with the opposing cartel. It was a show of force, a "better play with us, or this is what happens to you" sort of a thing.

lol.... It's really not a problem in here. Believe me, the northeast would never try to create a controversial law like Arizona did. Besides, once they come here and see what a blizzard is like they'll probably head back south.

I think blaming the existence of drug cartels and their ownership of weapons on the US government is beyond stretching things.

I agree. I think we should start legalizing some drugs, and end the drug war.

Hmmm...perhaps. You WERENT suggesting that the president and BATF are responsible for the deaths of 53 people? You werent suggesting it is appropriate to consider the blame for the deaths of 53 people on the ATF policy?

For those who think all the Violence is on the Border, guess again. The following headlines are from Aug, 14th until the 21rst, that's 8 days and I just picked a few and there are plenty more.

Mayor Kidnapped Near Mexico City Found Dead

Five headless bodies found in Acapulco

9 Bodies found on a highway in western Mexico

Attacks on Taxi Drivers, Buses in Mexican Resort City Leave 13 Dead

Gunmen kill 5 in Mexican Pacific resort city

11 people slain in Acapulco, Mexico

The vast majority of people killed are innocent civilians and used to send the message that the Cartels are in charge.

I know people in Arizona, and they have said, as others here, they only kidnap Mexican American people. They kidnap people they can extort, and people associated with the cartels. They basically leave American born, non anchor baby having folks alone. The people in know in AZ don't worry about being kidnapped.
