Re: Hurricane Irene: looking Like Major Disaster for Northeast

The good part of a hurricane is that it is a local job creating event wherever it impacts. Roofers, sheetrockers, plumbers, ditchdiggers, and all the trades repair everything. The insurance companies finance the repairs and tune up their actuarial tables and try to weasel out of paying wherever possible. Nevertheless, it is job creation on a scale that the government should be proud of. The only other jobs program that would be comparable would be to address energy conservation at local levels as Global Warming mitigation and common sense would move back into the National psyche.

Classic. Three or four days ago NHC called Irene's track to within 10 miles and the wingnuts take this as an occasion to bash NOAA.

i believe i do see your point, identifying the silver thread in the gray cloud

but we could say the same thing about an arsonist
    or a thief
tho their criminal acts are not acts of G-d, their negative actions also put people back to work reconstructing that which was lost

    Yes.

36 hours ago the Storm was supposed to arrive between Noon and 3PM. BY yesterday evening it was 8AM, which while it coincided with high tide, meant the storm was speeding up significantly. Less Rain, Less Wind damage.

Many Bridges to Manhattan were closed but a hotel employee drove home from Midtown Manhattan to Westchester at midnight last night and back into Manhattan 2 hours ago without any major problem- save avoiding those closed bridges, parkways, and only very minor water hazards.

Not sure of the state of the FDR drive where I live, near UN (UN land was 60 years ago, a Bay, then filled), but the entrance to my garage a few feet above, I'm told did Not flood. Which was the most likely problem along with wide-open-south all-glass facade.. We're officially Zone C, but really a mini-zone B or worse elevation-wise.

As my last post 8 hrs ago, winds did fade to about 60 (now much less) by the time it hit NYC. Still some back-side winds, but perhaps sunshine in few hours.

EDIT: I hear now FDR Drive is flooded in part on Upper East side/blocks from where I am. Which would be expected as it does flood there occasionally from heavy rain alone.

I'm personally sick of not being able to dunk a basketball because of racism.

You don't care about Americans, so don't pretend to. The damages are nothing compared to other hurricanes, and the $billions won't be yours will they, foreigner.

Oh? What do you know about riding out a hurricane or anything of the sort?

They did nothing of the sort, the path was changing all the time.

Oh, they sure did. The track hardly moved over the last three days.
