The last of the rain looks to have left Raleigh.

I should get a better nights sleep tonight.

Does it make me a bad person to care less now that the most important people in my life are out of harms way?

Not really.. Of course you care more about the people in your life over strangers. That is normal to me. Having said that? A person that has feelings will still be worried about others(strangers) in the storms.

I mean I still have tons of friends in NYC and Boston, but it didn't hit my parents and my girlfriend is okay in DC because I just talked to her.

The eye is headed almost directly for New York City. It would pass over the city by noon today.

That said, I'm going to make a prediction. As bad as the destruction is going to be, you're about to see how a city can recover spectacularly well after a major disaster. Since 9/11, they have planned, studied, and rehearsed what to do in response to precise situations such as these. Yes there will be widespread destruction, yes there will be deaths, yes there will be looting, but yes there will be a strong and concerted effort to restore law and order, and then city services, beyond what we once thought was possible. Make no mistake: This will be no Katrina.

Biggest concern for NYC right now is Surge. (and power outages and flooding outside major cities)
High Tide just after 8 AM, near coinciding with hurricane arrival.
NYC is the natural end of a large wedge/wide 'V' (NJ /LI coast) of water being pushed in.

Winds look like they're slowly diminishing, now 80 mph, and eye deteriorating. But it's a big storm with momentum.
This may change in 6 hours.
    see you later.
