No link yet, but I felt it in NC.

Reported just now as a 6.0.

I wonder if that is what I felt here in Piedmont, south of Greenville SC?

StillBallin posted about it on FB. I have a friend about 30 miles from the epicenter in VA, so I texted him to see what he felt. The radio announcer just said that the quake caused buildings in Manhattan to sway.

Got to be....lasted about 15 to 20 seconds.

JFK airport just shut down.

Looks like Irene is scaring the NE. It's shaking.

Yeah we just had some strong tremors here in DC. They evacuated the Metro and a lot of the buildings around here.

The Safeway I was in shook a lot. Stuff fell off the shelves. I hope the Metro is still running... I need to get to class...

That is weird. I grew up in the DC area and lived there close to 30 years. Never felt an earthquake.

I felt it, we left our building for a few minutes. Building shook and my chair was shaking.

Yeah it's back up and running now, albeit probably with delays.

I was on my motorcycle at a stop light. The bike felt like it was moving but I knew I was sitting still. I guess I'm glad it wasn't just me.

It's very interesting to see and hear the reactions of people om the East Coast when they are hit with a moderate quake such as this one being reported as a 5.9.

Here in California pay very little attention to quakes this size because they are pretty common, and the reports from the East are as if this was a huge event and the Washington Mounument may be leaningm and a number of builtings have been evaquated and snd no one is being aloud ro go back inside.

Buildings in the East were not built to the same standards they are here and they might have damage we might not see.

Apparently the tremors were strong enough that they evacuated the Pentagon and the Capitol.

We're not used to earthquakes on the East Coast, so everyone's freaking out (5.8 is still relatively moderate), but this was similar to some of the quakes i've experienced in Taiwan. At least facebook and twitter still work though.

We felt something even here in Rochester, NY. I was lying in bed and felt the bed shift ever so slightly. It was so weird.

Confirmed, I felt it as well. Was working and my monitor was shaking, and my chair started moving on its own.. I was like, WTF? We don't get those kinds of dangers in Rochester, NY. At best we get a ice storm every few years or so, but no earthquakes, or tornado's, hurricanes, or floods.. But it's winter 6 months of the year.. LOL

So far it doesn't look like there's any damage (at least not in my immediate vicinity). I guess a 5.9 is too small to be very destructive even though our buildings aren't earthquake-proofed like they are in California. It was pretty weird though. Having never lived anywhere other than Ohio and the DC area, I've never felt an earthquake before.

I guess I am too north to feel it. I have never felt an earthquake.

The Washington Post says that a spire broke off of the National Cathedral. That's just a few blocks from where I live.

So they're saying the Washington Monument is "tilting".

This was first time in my life that I've felt an earthquake.
