    ) This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
    2 .) For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
    3 .) Without natural affection, truce breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
    4 .) Traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
    5 .) Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
    6 .) For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
    7 .) Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

    This pretty much applies to how people have behaved in any point in history.

    Jamesrage, just because someone does not agree with your views on prison does not make them a "Scumbag sympathizer" as you so wonderfully put it. Look my major was Criminal Justice at the University of Mississippi. I had former parole officers as teachers, cops, fbi agent, secret service etc. I lived Criminal Justice for 4-5 years. My emphasis was Homeland Security but I enjoyed taking Correction courses as well. Some offered us a chance to visit maximum security prisons in the state of Mississippi. I never partook. Let me assure you that prisons are used as a punishment. Let me assure you that the horrors that your fickle mind cannot comprehend happen on a day to day basis in prisons. And lets not forget jails which are where one awaits for trial "Innocent until proven guilty"... are sometimes worse than prison. Where innocent people get thrown in jail cells with rapists, murderers, etc all for smoking some weed. But no one likes to think about that part of our Criminal Justice system. None of the taxpayers want to pay money to jails, mental institutions, or rehab centers... no. Everyone wants to let the money go to the prisons... for more walls, more guards, more barbed wire... and it does NOTHING! People are forced to join gangs or die. That's it. This includes non-violent offenders. Not everyone in prison is a bad person. I can assure you most people in prison did not have the luxury of great education, a loving working family/ household. Prison is not so black and white, aka good people don't go to prison, bad people do. Therefore everyone in prison needs to be "zapped" as some have put it. People who know the least love to talk the most. I don't believe anyone in here condones the sick atrocity that this man has committed. No one here is a "Scumbag sympathizer". I have not seen anyone say this man does not deserve harsh punishment for what he has done.

    The more people we put in prison, the more people we have to pay for , AIDS care/ medicine, bathroom facilities that can be used by the ever aging population of the prison. Prison needs to be preserved for the WORST of the WORST which yes would include this man. Nonviolent offenders are in prison for far too long, for a far less heinous crime. You mock the system as you talk about air condition, tv's, etc. They are forced to watch specific things on these tv's aka religious channels, etc. It's not ****ing HBO where they can watch whatever they want. If you actually knew anything about the history of prisons punishment throughout history. You would understand it went through various phases. There were times where prison was 100% retribution for crimes, others where it was 100% rehabilitative, even more where it was 100% punishment. And none of these options worked, it needs to be a mixture of these things. It cannot just be one. That did not work, it has not worked, it will not work. There were times where prison was 23 hour lockdown and just a sliver of light to read the bible that they gave you. And people said "that'll fix them right up." and half these people couldn't read and nothing changed and people got mad... it was worthless. It hasn't gotten much better my friend. I hope this educated some of you who feel "We should just zap'em". These are human beings and some deserve to rot in there for life, but others deserve a way out to better themselves and become a productive part of society (non-violent offenders). As someone stated before, you throw an animal in a cage with other rabid and raging animals and let it out 15 years later... what the hell do you think comes out? Humans are animals, no different.

    This is why I am a hermit. So much hate and anger in the world. Things are bad all over. Many people are evil. I am happier in my yard, or my room, in my little house, with my pack of dogs. Heaven.

    I have agree that being a Hermit has it's perks but it also has a few draw backs, and doesn't protect you from random violence, and being a woman it might make one less safe. I have been a Hermit for about 10 years but not by choice and I miss the companionship of being with someone I can share things with or just talk with.

    And no, I am not suggesting you use fear as a reason to change any ones life style, but I do believe everyone needs to be aware at all times of your surroundings and do your best to avoid conflicts because aome people seem to have lost there minds in the past few years.

    I don't worry much about the danger of living alone because I am always armed and I'm a pretty big guy.

    I enjoy my solitude. I have guns and know how to use them. I am no dainty little miss, either. I can hold my own if need be. And I will kill anyone that invades my turf..which is my house. And my pack of dogs and I are ready if anyone tries.
    I, too, miss talking to people sometimes, though. Hence, socializing online. Meeing new folks, using the net for entertainment. I avoid board wars, cliques, mean people, people full of hate it oozes with their words. I don't like all fluff either, but the beauty of the net is, you can log off any time you want. I am beholden to nobody. And I am no alone. I have roommates. Hermitish ones, just like me. We only see each other in passing through the hallway or doing laundry or them going to work or sharing the kitchen at meal time for our individual meals we cook for ourselves although I do leave left over cakes and cookies on the counter for them if they want some. They come home, it's a head nod and everyone is off to their own rooms.

    My dogs are my family. My ex husband is my other roomie. He is native american...6ft tall, and can handle himself. We are the best of friends. He has a girlfriend he met online. Someday they will meet. Me, I have just his friendship and I am ok with that. We get along great now that we are not attached via marriage. Do I get lonely? Sometimes, but rarely. I have an affinity with nature..with birds and other critters. Some always come by for a visit. They never speak back and I can't discuss daily things expecting an answer. Their company is enough. Especially the blue jay that sits on my knee when I am gardening, or the hummer that comes in the yard at the same time every day to get the fine mist from the hose for its bath, or the stick bugs that like to hang on my door frame, or the bees that light on my body like those white seeds from the sacred tree in Avatar. So my company is Gods critters...and you guys.
    So I can't complain.

    Sounds like you have it together, and I congratulate being able to tolerate having an EX around I couldn't do that.

    Sums up a lot of how I feel. I used to go out all the time. But these days, there's something in the air (or the water, who knows) and I don't like it. I'm not quite a hermit, but definitely a homebody these days. Most of my time is spent around the house, my garden and the surrounding woods. I have my dog, my few neighbors (who are all really nice except the one man who likes to antagonize my dog), my GF and my brothers family who live right up the road. There's more than enough there to keep me happy.
