I think that a lot of it is that we have access to so much more info than before. I suspect that criminal incidents haven't become as more prevalent as it seems. I think that a fair amount is just that the reporting procedures are better and more easily accessed. So, we record more of these incidents than before and we're more likely to be able to find out about such incidents.

But, I haven't looked at any numbers or anything.
    I may be wrong.

I remember back in the early 70's a 11 year old newspaper girl was missing here and the whole town was looking for her. The mayor was on tv asking who ever had her to release her.
Then one day a landlord came by a tenant's house and for some reason entered it and found pictures on the guy's coffee table he took as he cut the girl up.
The anger in this town was like a volcano. It changed how everyone lived. I still hate that guy. And yes, yes, he is still alive in one of the state prisons.

We had murders before but this one was so sick that it changed people here. The killer here in our town should have been given the death penalty. There is no reason for him to be living.
With his initial arrest his parents came out in defense of him stating he had never done anything before. BS, days later the stories came out about him as a teen trying to set a church on fire and his history of tormenting animals. The guy was a POS from the start and so were his parents for trying to defend this pile of manure.

Georgia Teen in Custody After Allegedly Killing Great-Grandmother in Sword Attack.

New one every time we turn around there is a new bazaar story of a brutal murder.

Georgia officials say a 14-year-old is in custody after his 77-year-old great-grandmother was stabbed to death with a sword. His grandmother was also wounded in the alleged attack.

Police arrived at the family's home Monday and found the grandmother barricaded inside a room and the great-grandmother on the ground outside, said Douglas County Sheriff Phil Miller.

Authorities said when they arrived, the teen was waving a long sword and had a pellet rifle that he fired, breaking the windows of a patrol car.

This story in on the News site for KTLA Channel 5 in Los Angeles, along with these Stories: Dad Charged After Disabled Son Found Dead in Cardboard Box, Boy Who Died Locked in Cage Wrote About Wanting His Family to Like Him, Slain Disabled Girl, Zahra Baker, May Have Been Raped.

It does not take a lot of searching to locate this type of very violent act by Fathers, Mothers, Brothers, Boyfriends. It seems that only group I haven't seen recently is Sisters, but at the rate things are spinning out of control it's only a matter of time.

I don't get it, we are in a clearly stressful time economically but the hate that seems to be involved is very troubling at the very least.
Of he did it then I hope he gets the death penalty. If he is in a state that does not have the death penalty or only executes 1 person every few years then I hope he gets prison for the rest of his life and ass raped on a daily basis. That kind of evil deserves the worst kind of punishment.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

"Daily ass rape" is a legal punishment in the US? What if he enjoys it? What if he's on top? Would that be different?

The only difference is that we now hear about them and instantaneously to boot. Socrates said it best.

For some people it should be. If he liked it then they could do it with an old broom handle. You know, the ones that have began to splinter.

No, violent crime is down more than non-violent crimes.

No - I think, if we were to have known about every single incident in the past - we'd see an overall decline in acts. It's the 'knowing' that's changed.
I strictly believe we must find our own way in life, but living within a society assumes certain respects of each other's personal space and well being. To me, that is a must.

I shake my head at the all too frequent examples of the far right mentality which savours the prospect of male rape and/or torture as a component of the American way of justice.
