NEW YORK (AP) -- Aligning himself with a public fed up with economic uncertainty and Washington gridlock, President Barack Obama declared Thursday: "There is nothing wrong with our country. There is something wrong with our politics."

His toughly worded message - he said there was frustration in his voice, in case anyone missed the point - came amid a series of polls showing that people are disgusted with political dysfunction and are dispensing blame all around, including on Obama.

Obama aired his frustration with the ways of Washington at an event in Michigan before pivoting to his re-election campaign and a pair of big-money fundraisers in New York City.

He delivered a condensed version of that message at a fundraiser at the lower Manhattan home of movie producer Harvey Weinstein, where celebrities Gwyneth Paltrow and Jimmy Fallon, were among the approximately 50 guests who paid $35,800 each to attend.

Obama said he told his Michigan audience that it deserves better than what it's been getting from Washington.

"They look at what's happening in Washington and they think these folks are really from outer space because they don't seem to understand how critical it is for us all to work together, Republicans, Democrats, independents, in order to move this country forward," Obama said.

Oh My Gawd!!!!! Is this clown for real? Is he really saying to people that he was the one that wanted to compromise, and the others weren't? I guess that makes sense in liberal speak a compromise is when you see everything their way.

Look, don't take it from me, let's hear from Felonious Monk, an Obama supporter no doubt.....

Demo's, the Black community, liberals, and the most important group independents are leaving this clown in droves...Obama will be lucky to only lose by a close number, and not cause a conservative landslide....

Thanks for the Socialist cretin libs, you have single handedly woken up America to your lies, and exposed how dishonest it all is, now good luck ever getting this type of chance again in the near future.....hahahaha.....:2wave:

Obama said that his vote against raising the debt level was done for purely partisan political reasons. He now feels he has any standing to argue against such tactics?

He is right. He is also a large part of the problem.

Wow, you're a complete idiot, you might want to realize some things:

1. Obama not a socialist

2. He was correct in saying that something is wrong with the politics of this nation. I see it as a problem when PACs can run ads for a political campaign and donate unlimited amounts of money to a campaign and then just disappear, without anyone knowing who did the donating.

3. From the article:

His toughly worded message - he said there was frustration in his voice, in case anyone missed the point - came amid a series of polls showing that people are disgusted with political dysfunction and are dispensing blame all around, including on Obama.

Thus the people are disgusted with Washington as a whole not just solely with Obama, but of course, you can't notice that for your partisan hackery.

Edit: Grammar, thanks ecofarm :p

Don't worry, he found a black guy that disagree's with Obama. That proves Obama sucks, case closed.

This goes hand in hand with his, "messy democracy", comment. The problem that Obama has with our system, is that he isn't the absolute ruler and he has to deal with Congress to get things done. Keeping the president from becoming the absolute ruler is an example of our system working.

When white people disagree with Obama, they're called racists. So, they're left with no choice but to look for black people who criticize his policies.

Hows the weather today in that alternate reality you've created for yourself?

Yea, except they're not, lol. Conservatives play the race card much more often. You're just shooting off talking points.

If Obama said that there is something wrong with the political system it is because he can't get his way.

there IS something wrong with our political system. it's SUPPOSED to be about compromise, that's why we don't have a monarchy.

I'm not a grammar Nazi and lord knows my spelling is atrocious, but seriously... if you're gonna call someone a "complete idiot"...

As far as I can see from that debacle he is the problem....Boehner (sp) and he had a deal that included revenue (closing loopholes, and possibly raising taxes) and Obama blew it up by coming in the next day and demanding more.

You know, Dave Ramsey summed it up pretty well in an article he penned on his website....If the national debt were a household it would go something like this....

The federal government will take in $2.173 trillion in 2011. That’s their income, and it sounds pretty good. Until, that is, you factor in that the federal government will spend $3.818 trillion during the year. So, just like many families, the government’s outgo exceeds their income—to the tune of $1.645 trillion in overspending. That’s called the deficit. Altogether, the government has $14.2 trillion in debt.

What would happen if John Q. Public and his wife called my show with these kinds of numbers? Here’s how their financial situation would stack up:

If their household income was $55,000 per year, they’d actually be spending $96,500—$41,500 more than they made! That means they’re spending 175% of their annual income! So, in 2011 they’d add $41,500 of debt to their current credit card debt of $366,000!

What’s the first step to get out of debt? Stop overspending! But that means a family that is used to spending $96,500 a year has to learn how to live on $55,000. That’s a tough pill to swallow. Those kinds of spending cuts seriously hurt, but it’s the only way out of debt for John Q. Public.

I, and I think America is getting fed up with this crap these politicians are shoving at us concerning some great deal they all made when it really is like getting publishers clearing house junk mail...The envelope says "CONGATULATIONS!!!!!You're our next Millionaire!" Then you open it up to find you've won NOTHING!

Most people agree with him. The poolitical system is messed up. You'd understand if you could see past that irrational fear of everything Obama.

His approval rating is around 40%.

By "Most people" you mean whom?

Last I saw Obama's disapproval ratings were in the 50s...That would mean that "Most people" disagree with him....Even this article says that only 19% agree with demo handling of this situation....Most people? Yeah right....

His approval rating is around 40%.

That has nothing to do with whether people agree with him that the political system is broken. Reading is your friend...

By most people I am referring to all the polls saying that most people think the political system is messed up. It's not a hard concept.

It's like teaching kindergarteners in here, lol.

Oh My Gawd!!!!! Is this clown for real? Is he really saying to people that he was the one that wanted to compromise, and the others weren't?..

the GOP was unwilling to compromise at all when it came to tax-increases or simply closing tax-loopholes. as far as they were concerned the solution to the debt would be cutting spending ONLY.

this is not compromise.

Obama's ratings have NOTHING to do with the fact most people DO believe our political system is messed up. And it is ALL sides that are the problem. This fiasco with the debt ceiling proves that. All sides were willing to put Americas credit rating at risk just to score political points and try to jab the other side.

Most people agree with him. The poolitical system is messed up.

Because I appreciate the benefit of reading skills, and would like to spread them to my conservative brethren around here.

You see how those two sentences are right next to each other? I claim most people agree with Obama. The political system is messed up. The topic is the political system. Obama thinks it's messed up. Most people agree with him. Sometimes sentences have to be read with a little contextual nuance so that you don't come off looking silly. It's simple once you get the hang of it.

Glad I could help you.

While they may agree that politics are messed up, they do not agree with Obama on the subject. His solution appears to be to run off to a partisan fund raiser.

this is not compromise.

That is simply untrue....As I already pointed out, Boehner was ready to accept a deal that included some 800billion in new revenues....Obama blew it up the next day saying it wasn't enough....You don't get to rewrite your own reality here.
