Serves as a reminder to just how important the Bill of Rights really is.
 
I wish I was still on the air and either in or close to Renton City so I could go after this wannabe dictators.

I would love to be there just to raise hell with the The Renton City Prosecutor, the Judge and Police.

I agree with the attorney this ill never fly.

Political Cartoons have been around a very long time and have been protected up until now, but then Obama and Holder are tunning the Justice Dept. so I would bet the farm they won't get involved and push the issue.

The Supreme Court, even the Liberals have to stand up for the Bill of Rights.

Don't they?
 
Libel law exists and its level of enforcement depends on how much you can pay for your legal defense. It's why news conglomerates like Fox can get away with blatant lies. They have swarms of legal teams ready to defend the network in court from any pursuers.

A cartoonist might not be so lucky.

This why we have a constitution and a Supreme Court if needed be. Just remember the 1st amendment is backed by the 2nd.
 
The real issue: these cartoons expose dirty secrets that only insiders knew of. So - they're wanting to know who made them - and see if that person is 1) employed by the department . . .as a result they would have 2) violated their contract by doing this.

I'm not stating my view - but I thought the real concern the deparment has should be clarified.
 
So you can't draw Mohammad and the Renton City Police department. We might as well start adding several other 'protected' people to the list. Then we can start banning and burning books. Those bonfires really are a lot of fun.

When I was 13 I got beat up by a PE teacher for drawing teacher caricatures when I was supposed to be reading my Health book in the library. That was 43 years ago. Mr. Hurd should be in his late 70s by now. He might still live in North Dakota if he's still alive. That man was a pig, which is why I drew his picture to look like one.

It's not that he made fun of them - in afct - none of it's even funny.

It's that there's a rat and they're trying to figure out who it is . . . what is funny is that until they reacted this way: not many people would have known these things actually happened, they drew attention to reality by making a stink.
 
This PD did not play their hand well.

The news story isn't about the guy's cartoons, it's about the PD's reaction. lol.
Now there's national attention on their PD. If the things the guy says in the cartoons are true, the PD prob'ly doesn't really want that sort of attention.

As we have seen in the past, very few in power actually follow the constitution.

They won't get involved because it's a local issue. I can't think of a President who would go pushing into every little local issue. And if he did, you'd be leading the chorus against him poking his nose into it.

Let the State of Washington deal with it (states rights....as a Conservative, you must have heard of that).

For the record, it's not "Renton City", it's just plain "Renton". Although not as ugly as it once was, it's still a bastard stepchild suburb of Seattle.
