ALERT: Gunman Spotted on Virginia Tech Campus

And this is why gun free zones, IMO of course, fail hard: People who want to carry, harm or not, who don't care will do so anyways.

Well it looks like (thankfully) nobody was shot, taken, or held hostage. Wonder what the hell the guy was thinking, if he exists.

A couple of young kids spotted what "appeared to be a gun covered by some sort of cloth?" It was covered, but they just knew it was a gun? Give me a break. This is just an example of the anti-gun hysteria that is prevalent among the uninformed in this country. My bet would be that there never was a gun. The only eyewitnesses seem to be three little girls who were all together at the time and there are no other witnesses who can corroborate the story.

It's sad that we live in a society where the mere mention of a gun can shut down an entire college campus.

Yes, yes, this whole thing we know nothing about must clearly be the fault of liberals.

You used the word "liberals," not me. I never mentioned any political lean in my comment. Blind hysteria born of ignorance knows no party affiliation.

Ok, that point conceded, but you're still making sweeping conclusions about a situation with hardly any information. If the warning had been ignored and turned out to be real, people would be freaking out regardless of their opinions on guns.

Admittedly, I'm drawing the conclusion that there was never any gun, but given the evidence, it wouldn't seem to be that much of a stretch. The only witnesses were three very young children, who probably have very limited experience with actual firearms, given their age. They never actually saw a firearm, just an item that "appeared" to be gun. On a college campus crowded with students, no one else saw this same individual or the alleged weapon.

When we live lives of abject fear, cowering at the slightest threat, we have allowed the criminal element to triumph.

On the bright side, hopefully VT got a chance to test their safeguards and emergency notifications systems (I'm assuming they have them since they had the real shooting) and can assess how they respond to such an emergency.

...and hopefully realize that their Gun Free Zone signage doesn't do a darn thing. ;)
