Debt Crisis is Worse than we Think

We need to cut spending. America has a bad addiction with spending what is not there and increasing the size of government to become a bloated unnecessary bureaucracy. We need to cut spending, we need to shrink government, we need to reform social programs and the tax code.

Funny how when the economy is good, the rightwingers think we need to cut spending, taxes and regulations. And when times are bad, we need to cut spending, taxes, and regulation.

We need to cut spending.[...]We need to cut spending, we need to shrink government, we need to reform social programs and the tax code.

We also need world peace. We need an end to war, poverty and famine. We need a solution to the energy crisis. And how about free free gumdrops and lollipops for everybody, while we're at it.

1. I am not a rightwingger (assuming that comment applied to me).

And you know the same can be said about the left wing, that during times of good economic status we should increase spending and raise taxes. And when times are bad the answer is to tax some more and spend some more.

The US government has grown and spent beyond what it can hanlde (and should handle). Bush had terrible fiscal policy in that he ran up the deficit. Obama is even worse with his running up of the federal deficit and continuing on that fiscal mentality and going even further with it. We are spending too much, this needs to stop.

And Texas needs rain...

And condoms. Have free condoms been mentioned yet?

And you can say that about the left, but it doesnt make it true.

There is no design - that's the great fault of the ssytem. So unregulated and so 'free' that it folds in on itself like a cold-nipped rising yorkshire pudding in the oven.

yeah. having worked for the Federal Government, I think we can both say that people who think that there could be some kind of Grand Conspiracy Controlling It All are giving these people waaaaay too much credit.

well, yeah. the laws of economics do not change whenever growth in US GDP goes negative for two quarters.

The USA is coming apart at the seams and liberals blaming conservatives, conservatives blaming liberals, and nothing constructive is accomplished. Y'all are getting exactly what you deserve and maybe, just maybe you'll learn some humility in the process.

Me, I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the show. :popcorn2:

I just love how certain you are about the laws of economics even when reality contradicts those "laws"

You sounded just as certain when you spoke about the massive spending cuts that never happened

Everytime someone says cut spending, they say cut entitlements...what about all the other stuff that costs us gadzillions and does not help americans like the entitlements do....but no the same people harp on entitlements..

What should have been done, instead?

Don't forget about the government funded abortions, cable TV, cell phones and internet.

Not my problem since I had nothing to do with creating it. The good citizens of the USA have been living beyond their means, both individually and collectively, for years and the chickens have come home to roost.

They forgot what made them great. If they can remember who they are and what they once stood for, I believe they can turn it around again.

But they are going to have to elect a president who will do what's necessary to get the budget in line with reality again, and a Congress and Senate that will support her..

Clinton was male, and the only president to get the budget in line with reality

Thought Clinton was a decent president. Smart guy. But the credit some of the daydreamers on the Left give him for the economy in the 1990s is grossly exaggerated. Clinton had the "luxury" of his Federal spending limited due to an adversarial Congress. And the other bonus of that dot.com bubble thingy providing a lot of cash on the revenue side of the formula.

Still like the guy. But he isn't deserving of the pedestal he is too often placed on.....

Clintons' "Balanced" budgets A) weren't balanced and B) came from the Republican House.

however, you are correct that in recent history he came the closest.

know how he did it?

he cut the capital gains tax and then lowered government spending to a little over 18% of GDP.

Yet, whether repubs have an adversarial congress or a compliant one, they still increase spending and deficits faster than any dem president before them.

He didn't balance the budget, he created a surplus

The repubs in congress couldn't do the same when they controlled the house, the senate AND the white house

He did more than cut the CG tax and spending rose throughout his presidency
