Right, as evidenced by its threat to blow the economy's head off if it doesn't get everything it wants, plus a trip to Disney World. Oh wait ... that's the republicans.

Hmm .. GE can move a plant to China … but Boeing can't build a 2nd plant in SC, one that would lose no jobs in Washington state and create 12,000 in SC...... just sometimes seems like there is no real consistency in our policy, I guess if Boeing had decided to build the 2nd line in China .. it would have been deemed okay.

Obama all things to the conservatives

    He hates big oil

yet is in the pocket of BP

He wants to end drilling in the gulf yet gives BP and some other oil cos some exemptions

He hates big business, the banks yet is in the pocket of them doing their bidding

The contradictions within ones mind to spew out this type of nonsense must be quite painfull ( or require a very simple mind

Republicans launched Obamacare, killed the oil and gas industry and is threatening to crush the economy, if they can't raise taxes? I didn't know that!

Got a list of those exemptions that Obama gave to the oil companies?

    Can't wait to see this!

The only painful thing is reading this kind of nonsense. Obama did not accept corporate campaign donations. If employees of BP chose to donate to his campaign that's another matter. Was he supposed to contact each of the millions of people donated and ask where they worked? He never said he wanted to end drilling in the Gulf. What he said was that drilling should stop until safety concerns raised by the BP disaster were studied. He doesn't hate big business -- that's a wingnut talking point. He is not in big banks' pocket. He is attempting to implement financial reform to reregulate banks, and he is attempting to implement consumer protections to prevent working stiffs from being taken advantage of. Republicans are fighting tooth and nail to water down both efforts, as they ARE in the banks' pockets.

On top of that do we really want to reduce ourselves to wage levels in China just so we can compete for these types of industries? Because mind you that its not all industry that moving, its mostly industry that relies on an uneducated work force. The unemployment rate for people who have bachelor's or master's degrees in the US is still very low, the way to compete in the future is education and jobs/careers which require education.
It isn't completely out of anyone's control. Let's be clear up front also. Those going to China who work for GE are still going to make some major money. Obama had some great idea on how to keep jobs here when he ran for president but he's tossed them aside.

Enacting tarrif's is a losing proposition. Taxing companies that send jobs overseas at a higher rate isn't.

What I see is this, either we get more educated and get more competitive. OR we slash wages, government benefits, safety standards etc, work conditions, our standard of living and march back into the 20's in terms of wages, benefits, standards etc just to compete with China and other developing economies. Well we'll undoubtedly have to do a bit of both, some slashing but invest in education as much as we can. That way we can preserve our standard of living and continue to increase it because we'll have the skills and knowledge to justify it, and yes we'll have to buy toasters from China.
We are not losing jobs to China because they are better educated.

The Chinese are rapidly becoming very well educated (at least those around the eastern seaboard)

The Chinese are gaining skills and the training to do what ever we can do in the west. The amount they are behind in technological development levels has been cut drastically

Dude, oil companies get like 8 billion a year in subsidies and tax cuts.
You know the time is right to take control, we gotta take offense against the status quo
