Glenn Beck likens Norwegian dead to Hitler youth

Oh yeah, and I know a lot of Conservatives send their kids to those pro life marches in Washington DC... From what I have heard people say, it's mostly a crash course in indoctrination. Somebody I had a lot of respect for went one year, and complained about how they actually tried to promote a lesson in how to debate people who support abortion rights and that really upset her. She said she didn't want to go there and learn how to debate people, tell them they are nazis, abortion is the holocaust, and abortion in murder. She wanted to actually learn how to help her community lower abortion rates, and they didn't do anything like that.
 
I understand that the Labour party youth section has been holding these events on the island for forty years. The participants are all members, most from fifteen to thirty, but a few younger. One of the dead spoke at the party conference last year, and some of the past attendees are now party politicians. There is no question of indoctrination, that idea comes from the fevered fantasies of the rabid right.

Comparing ANY political camp to the Hitler Youth is utterly abhorrent - especially after said kids were murdered and traumatized by someone of an opposing political viewpoint - because if you didn't join Hitler Youth, you were killed or imprisoned.

If he wants to make such a callous comparison, he should at least find evidence that any of these TEENAGERS (kids is being used in the sense that they are younger than us) were being forced to attend for fear of their lives, then you could make the comparison.

But let me ask you this. How often have religious and tea party rallies been compared to nazi indoctrination, here and on other boards, even on tv?
One mustn't throw rocks when sitting in glass houses.

I'm sure it has happened, but at how many of those did a left-wing shooter murder 70+ people for their political or religious beliefs?

Why the hell is Beck so obsessed with Nazis and making Nazi comparisons? OCD perhaps?

Tea party have openly compared Obama to Hitler, so there really are no victims, just people being disrespectful and ignorant.

The tea party has been compared to nazis, GW was compared to Hitler, and religious gatherings are compared to indoctrination camps. One side is mud slinging as much as the other.
It would be nice if everyone could discuss facts, instead of name calling.
Might be more productive, that's all.

Discussing facts is a lot to ask of these people... and I am being 100% serious.

I agree with you completely on that.

Hitler, Stalin, Nazis and Communists should be off the table (and I'm even caving a little on Socialist - because Western European-style Social Programs are, in my opinion, perfectly compatible with Democracy - while the others aren't. Sadly, people don't really know what is socialist and is not, so they misuse it quite frequently, but I'll still leave it on the table for now).

Mass stereotyping doesn't do our politics any good at all. But calling Bush or Obama "Hitler" still isn't as callous as calling 70 dead kids "Hitler Youth". I find that one beyond the pale.

The most appalling thing is to see people flocking to defend Beck or anybody else for making such statements. I usually shrug it off or think people are just being ignorant because they won't be the last, but defending that behavior and remarks is beyond offensive. If somebody made comments like that on DP they'd probably get an infraction at least, but outside of DP it makes people like Beck rich and famous. Appalling!

You want left wing atrocities? How about the 60,000,000 (give or take several million) Mao murdered and the 25,000,000 or so victims of Josef Stalin. When it comes to mass murder and the indifference to human rights and freedoms when it comes to ideology, nobody trumps the Left.

The Left, in order to boost their own image, is always using the term "right wing" to describe any psychotic behavior out there, unless its a Muslim of course. It appears to work for a while, especially among the young, clueless and hopelessly indoctrinated, but most people catch on after a while.

A fact is, that a huge number of people were very disappointed when GW won the election over Gore (and lets leave it at that, instead of going into detail).
It all escalated from there.
Folks went from being unnerved to blowing their top.
I have never seen so much hatred thrown around, not only by the average American against the average American, but by politicians, celebrities, talking heads....
Why we can't talk to each other as human beings, why must everything be us against them?
We are them, we are all in the same boat, are we not?
When its all said and done, and one or the other politician has long since left the office, we are still Americans, all of us.
So called informative pundits, as well as our politicians, thrive on driving a wedge between us, and they not only do it so well, they profit from it.
So lets not give these people too much power over us, lets not believe everything they say, and what's more, lets not defend them if they go over the deep end.

So you're trying to take the glare of shame off Beck's idiotic behavior and trying to claim the Left did the same thing? Pathetic really.
In addition, the Norwegian shooter, the Christian bombers of abortion clinics, many of those terrorists are indeed right wing. Get your facts right, and stop calling yourself an independent. What a hypocrite

I'm 100% with you on this. With one caveat: I became enraged not by the Bush election, but by the Clinton impeachment hearings, which I felt were superfluous and unnecessary. Censure should have been the course there and when 2000 rolled around, I think it was that history that sent some on the left into histrionics.

And we still haven't recovered from those histrionics as each side apparently thinks they have one-up the other since then.

If I can give my side one prop, at least we didn't try to impeach Bush - and I, for one, despite my upset attitude toward him, didn't want it nor did I ever call for it.

That said, the bitterness is pretty nasty on both sides.

Help me out, here. When did Glenn turn into such a snide, cynical smart-mouth? Was it when his show got canked? At some point, he turned into a jerk.
