Glenn Beck likens Norwegian dead to Hitler youth

I see Beck as 50% meltdown, 40% hysteria and 10% truth.

I still wonder what was going on with that spaced-out hospital video he made, after some kind of surgery/treatment. He was all puffy and weepy... I thought he had abandoned the US system of healthcare then and there... but it fizzled away like Rush losing his oxy.

Comparing the victims to Hitler youth and the Norwegian Labour Party to Nazis is an incredibly slime ball thing to do. I will have a very lowered opinion of anyone who supports Beck in his sensationalist opinions on this matter.

Beck makes America look bad. It's why Europeans stereotype us and think we are a bunch of ****ing morons who can't think for ourselves.

Norway, I apologize on behalf of our most stupid people and the media pundits they so wrongfully worship.

I used to like Beck a lot. His show, at least in the first year, was often thought-provoking and he did raise many good points. As someone who doesn't stubbornly cling to any fixed ideology, although I seem to find myself more and more to the right of center lately, I found his commentary very interesting and often even agreed with him. But then something happened and his discourse became increasingly reminiscent of the likes of Alex Jones and I seriously started to question both his intelligence and his sanity. He had the advantage at one point and he completely blew it. I barely could stand to watch him for 5 minutes at a time in the end. Never listened to his radio show so I can't comment on that, but if the OP is any indication, he's still competing for most insane pundit of the year.

Of the year, maybe, but Randi Rhodes takes the award for all time. She was ok as a rock-n-roll station DJ... but she was a rabid moron on Air America. The most ridiculous, non-context political ranting I've ever heard on the radio.

This is so true and is often the reason I spend so much of my time arguing with Europeans, some of whom have never even set foot in the US, trying to convince them that the headlines they read about some idiot American's comments do not represent the country as a whole. It's infinitely tiresome and a good example of how much the media is responsible for shaping people's perceptions of reality.

to all Norwegians who might read this, may your beautiful children rest in peace.

Just wondering what the context was that Beck was talking about...On the surface the remark sounds extremely callous, and remarkably stupid, except to say that in this day and age many things are taken out of context for the purpose of attacking those that disagree with a particular point of view.

A good example, and one that is within the same sad event, the killer. Much is being made of the killers supposed Christianity when there is little proof that this man is a Christian at all. I wonder how many willing to jump all over Beck for a stupid analogy will also denounce the smearing of an entire religion without the slightest shred of proof or context.

If you want intelligent commentary, listen to Neal Boortz... I don't always agree with him, but he is always thought provoking...

Wow. This isn't anywhere near as important as you are all making it. It was a flippant statement about political camps for kids. From his statement, he must believe that ALL political camps for kids are comparable to the Hitler Youth, not just those on the left. He went on to say that he would never send his kids to a Republican camp or anything like it.

So......I really don't see the big deal. He thinks political camps for kids are creepy. I kinda think so too.

I don't recall him comparing the Tea Party camp to Hitler Youth. He said it about Norway because it is a controversial thing to say in light of the tragedy that occurred there. He's a political pot stirrer just like Ann Coulter. He does it for ratings and attention, and he gets it.

First off... "kids" is a very relative term. Most of the "kids" were between 17 and 22... hardly "kids" any more.

On top of that these "kids" went to this camp voluntary during their summer break. When Glenn Beck in his little narrowminded dark mind hears "camps", he thinks of parents sending their kids to summer camp to get rid of the kids during the summer... you know the traditional American "camp"... it is in no way such a situation. No one is forcing anyone to this camp.

But is sending your children say aged 2 to 15 to some sort of camp creepy? You betcha it is, especially if it is to "learn" something like religion or politics... but the key is here.. "sending"... the parents make the choice, not the children.... something that in most cases did not happen at the camp in Norway

And let me remind people.. "kids" aged 15 and up are hardly kids any more, especially in Norway (Scandinavia in general).

Just stop apologizing for him. It only makes you look bad.

The Tea Party camp isn't the one in the news at the moment. Based on what he said, he believes ANY political camp for kids is creepy and comparable to Hitler Youth.

I think he does stir the pot, absolutely. The ratings and attention are a result of him speaking his mind with no filter. That usually happens when people are incredibly blunt, honest and outspoken.

Um, I'm not apologizing for him. I'm simply clarifying what he said since I'm one of the only ones who actually listens to the entire radio show instead of just snippets that media matters wants you to hear.

Of course not, and it would gain him no favor with his viewers. However, the Norway one is in the news and it's especially controversial to compare the camp to Hitler Youth right after they got attacked by a mad man.

Nah, not really. You have to be controversial. Controversy sells. It always has. Just ask Howard Stern.

Of course it's controversial, Patrick. When you have 3 hours of ad lib on a radio show and you aren't afraid to say whatever you're thinking at the moment, you're going to say controversial things. Again, this isn't a big deal. He wasn't saying the kids were learning how to murder millions of Jews.....just that political camps for kids are creepy. Like Hitler Youth was creepy.

Some of you are reading too much into it simply because you despise Glenn Beck. As usual.

I'm merely pointing out that the reason he gets ratings is because of the controversial things he says, not the fact that he speaks honestly and bluntly.

I can't speak for others here, but I honestly don't hate Glenn Beck. I don't know the guy personally. I see him for what he is. In order to hate Glenn Beck, he would have to matter to me in some way, and he simply doesn't. I find it's pointless to fall into the trap of hating someone who is trying to get you to have a reaction about them one way or another.

No we are not.

1. Norway was invaded and occupied by Nazi Germany in WW2.
2. Many Norwegians died during the invasion and during the occupation.
3. Many Norwegians were sent to death camps.
4. Norway had their "Quislings" aka collaborators who's leader was Vidkun Quisling, a right wing politician.
5. Norway's Quislings targeted especially the left during the occupation..

so yes, Beck's words are extremely hurtful and highly inappropriate on top of being factually wrong and hypocritical.

OMFG- Beck said something controversial. Guess what? I bet he would love the fact that we're talking about it. F*cking attention whore. He'll never retract or express sorrow over anything he's said previously, so any conversation about it is pretty much useless. He'll just keep right on going. The only power we have is to not listen to him, and ignore everything he's said. Most guys like him, deprived of any audience, will lose steam and eventually just give up.

*facepalms*.....

Sorry to burst your bubble, but it's pretty black and white when a prominent media figure is overshadowing the deaths of innocents with partisan hackery. He's trying to get people to think about, "Well why were the children are a political camp in the first place?!" (i.e. it's the fault of the parents for putting them in a dangerous situation.)

How about... why did a right-wing, white Christian nutjob shoot up a bunch of children because he was angry at the government? If a Muslim had done this, Beck would going on about the "religion of hate". But no, now because it's a right winger that is just a tad more far right than Beck, we don't want to talk about that.

Don't even bother pretending Mellie. You're a relentless apologist for this guy. It shows in every single thread about him you post to. Keep drinking your koolaid.

You'd think he'd have had the decency to wait until their bodies were cold before starting to smear their memory.

Decency and Glenn Beck are not normally associated together...

Beck is only a topic due to the dispicible people who continually support him by watching. As long as these people continue to wash their own brains with all that Beck detergent, he'd be a fool not to sell it to them. It is America, after all. If somebody will buy your snake-oil, sell it to them.

Like I said, he's crazy like a FOX. He plays these gullible, disgruntled, America hater's like a fiddle.
